Marvel Studios has reportedly hired Wonder Woman 1984's writer to pen a mystery MCU film. Even though all eyes at this point are on the start of Avengers 4's marketing campaign publicly, the internal focus is already starting to shift to the future. Phase 4 is largely a mystery at this point, especially when it comes to what has been officially announced. Spider-Man: Far From Home will kick off the new Phase, and additional reports have finally started to make it clear what will come next.

All signs point to Black Widow starting production early next year, with The Eternals set to follow it later in the year. This also appears to be Marvel's planned release strategy according to a rumored 2020 MCU slate. Some of Marvel's other projects have also been receiving some updates, and we may be able to add another new project to their potential slate - we just don't know what it is.

That Hashtag Show reports Wonder Woman 1984's David Callahan has been hired to write a mystery film for Marvel Studios. Callahan's previous credits include The ExpendablesDoom, and Godzilla. In addition to working on DC's Gal Gadot led sequel, he's also been working on scripts for Zombieland 2 and Mortal Kombat. He even did uncredited work on Ant-Man back when Edgar Wright was still attached, so it appears Marvel is ready to bring him back into the fold in a larger capacity.

MCU Characters

With no word on what project Callahan could be attached to, it leaves plenty of room to speculate. Of Marvel's other in-development films, it is probably safe to knock off two sequels as possible projects for him. Ryan Coogler is directing and writing Black Panther 2, so this probably isn't Callahan's project. The other non-fit should be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 since the latest updates still say Marvel will use James Gunn's script. It also can't be a X-Men or Fantastic Four movie, since Marvel Studios can't legally work on these projects until the Disney-Fox acquisition is finalized. So what projects is Callahan left with?

Even though many believed director Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill would both return to write the script, he could potentially be doing work on Doctor Strange 2. There's also been reports of a Dark Avengers script floating around Marvel Studios and Callahan could be their choice to come in and finish it. Characters like Nova and Adam Warlock have been discussed as having the potential to lead their own films, so maybe Callahan is being brought in to help shape the cosmic side of the MCU. Of course, it could also be an entirely different IP that has not yet been rumored to be in Marvel's plans. If Callahan is indeed working on a MCU film, then hopefully we'll get some additional news soon on what exactly it is.
