Mutants of the Marvel Universe now have their own paradise, thanks to establishing a home on Krakoa. Every mutant is welcome. There's groundbreaking medicine, and some of the most addictive coffee on Earth. So, why would anyone ever leave? That question is going to be asked a lot more often, now that The New Mutants have learned that leaving comes with all new dangers.

In New Mutants #3, a different group of Mutants is featured, thanks to the previous stars getting themselves incarcerated in a Shi'ar prison. On Earth, Armor, Glob, Maxine, and Manon are enjoying life on Krakoa... but notice some of their friends still haven't shown up to enjoy the peace and security along with them. Specifically, Beak and Angel. The mutants decide to head to Nebraska to continue efforts to look for their lost friends and spread the gospel of Krakoa.

Thankfully, they find a happy Beak and Angel in middle-of-nowhere Nebraska with a whole gaggle of mutant children. The reunion is joyous as beak and armor reconnect. However, Beak's dad is suffering from dementia and has months to live. Beak reveals he can't go to Krakoa because his dad needs him. And as if it's fate at work, Armor gives him some of the magical mutant medicine developed on the Krakoa, curing Beak's father.

Unfortunately, the visit turns dangerous as a group of anti-mutant mercenaries followed the New Mutants and capture Beak and Angel's kids, holding them at gunpoint. The bad guys want to negotiate for Krakoan medicine, however, Armor takes exception and tries to take them down. She's hit with a power dampening missile.

The encounter is just the latest example of the New Mutants jumping into a situation with good intentions only to end up in a worse spot brought on by themselves. Sunspot, Magik and the other group of New Mutants are in similar peril after deciding to go to space to find Cannonball. They ended up in intergalactic jail and are later forced in military action with the Shi'ar empire - all because they were eager to bring a friend home who didn't necessarily want to come to Krakoa.

The group didn't do any reconnaissance beforehand and went in half-cocked, not even thinking about who might be waiting for them. They inadvertently brought danger to Beak and Angel's family and will have to negotiate their way out of the ambush. In this case, the mutants should have been more patient with their approach, stayed on Krakoa, and figured out a most-fleshed out plan from there. The New Mutants' hearts are in the right place. But, their visit to Nebraska wasn't very well thought out.
