Marvel Reportedly Considering White Tiger Netflix Series

Daredevil and White Tiger

Right from the start, the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe received praise across the board. Daredevil provided Marvel the opportunity to bring more mature content to their fans, and that was only the beginning. Since then, Jessica Jones debuted as well as a second season of Daredevil, but Netflix is interested in more. Luke Cage will debut at the end of next month, followed by Iron Fist next year before all four heroes join forces for The Defenders. Even with these five series coming to the steaming service, spin-off series similar to the recently announced The Punisher series could make there way to homes in the future.

As we wait to see whether other upcoming characters get upgraded to their own series, it appears that Marvel may be staying ready in case Netflix comes calling. According to the latest rumor, they have already been working to film pilots for potential new series, with at least one brand new character being involved.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Marvel has already shot four pilots that Netflix could consider turning into full series. While not all of the series have been revealed, their sources have revealed that one of these pilots is for a White Tiger series. There have been numerous interpretations of White Tiger, but this reported pilot is for Angela Del Toro. If that name sounds familiar to those who have seen the Marvel/Netflix series, you may recall her being name dropped during season 1 of Jessica Jones by the private investigator herself. Shortly after this report came out however, Umberto Gonzalez at The Wrap denied that this is the case:

DEADED. Not true.

Whether or not this initial report is true, White Tiger should be a prime candidate for her own series. Not only would it give Marvel another female-led property, but would also be the first hispanic hero to lead a show from the studio. As for the other three potential pilots that could be shot, there have been reports that Shang Chi will appear in Iron Fist and after choosing to use the traditional version of Danny Rand, having an Asian-led superhero show would further diversify this corner of the MCU. Rumors have also continued to point towards Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider being in the plans, although the latter may be unlikely with the character set to appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It would make sense for Marvel to be ready for new character series, but let's not forget that they could preparing for another Punisher style reaction to an upcoming supporting character. One prime candidate could be Simone Missick getting a Misty Knight series or Heroes for Hire after her debut in Luke Cage. Even though we have not yet seen the character in action, a similar case could be in store for Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing following Iron Fist. Pilots to pre-existing characters would make more sense given Marvel would already have an actor or actress cast in these roles, as opposed to not only casting someone in secret but also shooting a pilot as well.

Still, it remains to be seen whether this rumor is proved to be true. However, considering the already crowded release slate (seasons are planned through 2017, with three others without release dates), it may be some time before any more Marvel Netflix shows are announced, let alone debut on the streaming service.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. The Defenders and Iron Fist arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
