Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says he won’t rule out the possibility of reviving Netflix’s canceled Marvel shows, which include Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. Ever since Daredevil's screen rights reverted to Disney, fans of the Netflix series have been calling for it to be resurrected on Disney+. A proper reunion with the MCU could be in the cards for any of the old Netflix shows in the future, and Feige seems open to considering their return.

The Netflix family of Marvel shows – which consists of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Defenders, and The Punisher – began in 2015 as an extension of the MCU into other platforms. While the series was technically part of the same world as The Avengers, they were only connected by a handful of references and inside jokes. This ended up being a good thing in many ways, as the Netflix shows were able to stretch beyond the specific style of the MCU and embrace darker, more mature themes. With the advent of Disney+, however, the days of Netflix airing original Marvel content are over.

However, it might not yet be the end for some of Marvel’s beloved Netflix series. In a recent interview with Deadline, Kevin Feige was asked explicitly about the chances of reviving shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and his answer should at least give fans room to keep hoping.

“Well, certainly you’ve seen what we announced at Comic-Con a year and half ago and on Disney Investor Day a few weeks ago, so that’s our focus. But I’ve been at Marvel long enough to never say never about anything.”

While Feige’s comment is far from a promise of more Defenders content to come, it certainly leaves the door. Open. Fan campaigns like the one currently urging Daredevil’s revival have been successful in the past for shows like The Expanse and Sense8, and Marvel has the extra incentive of returning beloved characters to their current canon. Reincorporating the Netflix series could take less direct forms, such as the recent calls to include Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in Spider-Man 3.

Whether or not such moves are realistic for Marvel will largely depend on the reception to the MCU’s series-heavy phase 4. The new era kicks off on Friday, January 15, with the premiere of WandaVision, and it will continue through this year with other Disney+ originals like The Falcon and Winter Soldier and Loki. At least for right now, Marvel’s onscreen future rests mostly on streaming series. It remains to be seen whether the Netflix shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones might be counted among those ranks.
