Disney announcing their own streaming service really messed things up for Netflix’s Marvel co-productions. As the competition between the two companies is about to seriously heat up, Netflix has cut all ties to Disney by cancelling its entire roster of Marvel shows. It’s a shame, because fans had come to love Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist.

Sadly, they got caught in the middle of it, and now, we’ll never get any real closure on their story arcs. As a sort of consolation, here are 10 Stories For Fans That Miss Marvel’s Netflix Shows.

Marvel Knights Punisher by Garth Ennis: The Complete Collection Vol. 1

SEE IT NOW: $26.39 | READ IT NOW: $19.99

The Punisher is arguably the Marvel character with the hardest edge, but just like with DC’s Batman, there came a time in his comic book history where that edge was softened a little. The comics were less violent and gritty and played it safe. The Punisher stories weren’t surprising anymore.

So, in came Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon – the dream team behind the excellent Preacher – to bring that hard edge back with a Marvel Knights series about the character. Frank Castle’s former glory of violence, grit, and shock value is back as he takes on an entire crime family by himself.

Daredevil by Bendis and Maleev Ultimate Collection Vol. 1

SEE IT NOW: $23.93 | READ IT NOW: $29.99 $9.99

This is the definitive Daredevil storyline, following the Man Without Fear through his iconic rogue’s gallery and roster of supporting characters in Hell’s Kitchen. Throughout the storyline, Matt Murdock tangles with both the seedy criminal underworld – including the syndicate run by the infamous Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio in the Netflix series) – and agents of law enforcement.

The series was written by Brian Michael Bendis, the man behind the Ultimate Marvel Universe, whose literary influences are playwrights and novelists as opposed to previous comic book writers, which elevates the quality of the writing. Meanwhile, the great Alex Maleev provides the art.

Jessica Jones Vol. 1: Uncaged!

SEE IT NOW: $12.23 | READ IT NOW: $10.99

Just like her Netflix series, this Jessica Jones solo series is filled with chilling revelations about the character’s backstory, mixed with her intriguing investigations as a private eye. And of course, it has her signature blend of dry wit and cynical worldview.

The character’s original creators returned to give her the solo series she deserved to tie in with the release of the Netflix series, based on conversations between comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and TV writer Melissa Rosenberg – the whole project was coordinated specifically to give fans of the TV series a comic to read. Anyone who enjoyed Jessica Jones’ refreshingly dark adventures on Netflix will love this comic series.

Power Man and Iron Fist Vol. 1: The Boys Are Back In Town

SEE IT NOW: $13.77 | READ IT NOW: $8.99

Luke Cage is just called Luke Cage in Netflix’s Marvel shows to preserve the gritty, realistic, street-level tone of that universe, but in the comics, he had the superhero alias Power Man, and he often fought alongside Iron Fist. In Netflix’s Marvel-verse, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were shown to be the closest duo, while Luke and Danny Rand were adversaries when they first met in The Defenders.

However, in the comics, they have one of the most iconic partnerships in Marvel history. This comic series was written at a time when they’d been kept apart for quite some time. At last, they were reunited!

Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 1: The Last Iron Fist Story

SEE IT NOW: $10.99 | READ IT NOW: $10.99

Iron Fist might have been the least critically adored and popular of Netflix’s Marvel series, but it was far from a bad show and still had plenty of fans out there. This comic book series essentially fills in all the gaps in the character’s rich story. Any unanswered questions you might’ve had about the motivations of Danny Rand are answered in this comic.

And not to mention all the kung fu action on its pages – there’s plenty of that. It’s dubbed “The Last Iron Fist Story” without literally being the last Iron Fist story, and it’s the last Iron Fist story you’ll ever need.

Defenders Vol. 1: Diamonds Are Forever

SEE IT NOW: $10.87 | READ IT NOW: $8.99

The Avengers might be out there saving the world from otherworldly alien threats, but who’s looking out for the little guy? Who’s protecting people from street crime? The Defenders, that’s who. A few characters have come and gone from the team, but thanks to the Netflix series, the best-known version is the line-up of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

That’s the line-up you’ll see in this comic book, which also includes the Punisher and a criminal underworld in disarray thanks to the absence of the Kingpin. The Defenders find themselves in the middle of all-out gang warfare.

Shadowland

SEE IT NOW: $19.99 | READ IT NOW: $8.99

In the second season of Daredevil, we saw the titular blind vigilante take on the Hand, a widespread secret society of deadly assassins. This comic book storyline shows the aftermath of a similar battle, as he attempts to convert the surviving ninjas assassins to the good side, so they can get his particular brand of justice out there when he doesn’t have the time to save everyone.

He wants to rebuild the Hand to help people. On paper, it’s a good idea. Soon enough, there’s a huge army of vigilantes ridding the streets of Hell’s Kitchen of crime. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-Man, and Wolverine also make appearances to try and right Matt's wrong.

Daughters Of The Dragon: Samurai Bullets

SEE IT NOW: $10.99 | READ IT NOW: $10.99

This pulpy crime story follows bounty hunter duo Misty Knight and Colleen Wing as they track down four villains who have skipped bail, robbed a rich publishing magnate, and gone on the lam. They’re a pair of great characters with a dynamic that’s interesting to explore.

Misty Knight was played by Simone Missick in Luke Cage, The Defenders, and Season 2 of Iron Fist, while Colleen Wing was played by Jessica Henwick in Iron Fist, The Defenders, and Season 2 of Luke Cage. So, this storyline was probably being primed for a Netflix adaptation before the devastating wave of cancellations.

Elektra: Always Bet On Red

SEE IT NOW: $10.99 | READ IT NOW: $8.99

Just like Ben Affleck failed to do justice to Daredevil on the screen, Jennifer Garner failed to do justice to Elektra in the same movie. It was a double gut-punch. Luckily, Charlie Cox came along on Netflix to give us the screen Daredevil we deserved – and, one season later, Élodie Yung did the same thing with Elektra.

This comic book storyline follows her through a sumptuous neon landscape as she runs away from her past and towards the sordid criminal underbelly of Las Vegas. The series is as dark and violent and complex as we’ve come to expect from this character.

Daredevil: Born Again

SEE IT NOW: $13.59 | READ IT NOW: $14.99 $5.99

It’s impossible to picture the Karen Page we know and love from Netflix’s Marvel shows selling Daredevil’s secret identity for a quick fix of drugs, but that’s just what she did in the comics. "Born Again" is widely considered to be the greatest Daredevil story ever written. This is the character’s darkest, most engaging tale, which is no surprise, considering it was written by Frank Miller of The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City.

After hints were dropped in Season 2 of Daredevil and Season 1 of The Defenders, we were sure that the "Born Again" storyline was finally going to come to the hit Netflix series, but its demise might mean we have a long wait before we see it adapted to the screen.
