Despite the popularity of the Marvel shows on Netflix, each of them was canceled, leaving the future of those characters uncertain. With Marvel regaining the rights to use these characters, there are rumors that some of them will be showing up in the MCU. However, it remains unclear if Marvel would use the same actors from the Netflix shows or recast the roles.

It would be great to see these actors get a chance to bring their characters into the MCU, but it does feel like it could be confusing. As well-cast as those roles were, fans might be seeing some new faces starring as these iconic heroes and villains.

Kilgrave - Hugh Grant

David Tennant Netflix

Kilgrave was not a well-known character before he appeared in Jessica Jones, but he quickly became one of Marvel's most captivating villains. His powers of manipulation were dark and disturbing, and David Tennant infused the character with a menacing charm.

Another British actor who could step into the role quite well is Hugh Grant. His past as a rom-com star would make this controlling and abusive role all the more unsettling. And Grant's more recent career choices have shown his considerable talent and skill for playing sleazy characters.

Elektra - Maria Bakalova

Elondie Young Daredevil Netflix

Elektra is a key character in Daredevil's story so it would make sense to bring her along if he will be joining the MCU. She is a badass assassin who can go toe to toe with some of Marvel's most fearsome fighters so it would be fun to see her kick butt in the movie as well.

With her breakout role in the Borat sequel, Maria Bakalova cemented herself as one of the most noteworthy new talents in Hollywood. While she could clearly bring a lot of humor to the role of Elektra, her Oscar-nominated performance showed the depth of her talent. It would be exciting to see how she handles herself in an action role.

Misty Knight - Kiki Layne

Luke Cage Netflix

Misty Knight was introduced in the Luke Cage series and made a memorable impression. But there is so much more to do with the character based on her role in the Marvel comics. She deserves the chance to grow as a character within the MCU.

Kiki Layne first got people's attention with her acclaimed performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. She then proved herself to be an action star in the making with The Old Guard. Layne would no doubt bring depth and strength to the role of Misty.

Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes - Delroy Lindo

Mahershala Ali Luke Cage Netflix

Before being named as the new Blade in the MCU, Mahershala Ali had an all-too-brief role as the villainous Cottonmouth in the first season of Luke Cage. Ali brought layers to the role of a gangster with dreams of being a businessman.

In the comics, Cottonmouth is a bit of an older character than the version Ali played. That's why Delroy Lindo would be a great fit for the role. He always brings that charisma and power to whatever role he plays and he could make for an intimidating older antagonist figure for Luke.

Wilson Fisk / Kingpin - Giancarlo Esposito

Vincent D'Onofrio Netflix

Some have said the hardest role to recast from the Netflix shows would be Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk. It is true that D'Onofrio was phenomenal in the role, making the classic villain a somewhat tragic character while also being terrifying.

Perhaps the best way to approach recasting the role is to try something new. While Giancarlo Esposito doesn't seem like the imposing figure Kingpin is usually depicted as, he has shown that he can bring a commanding presence without even saying a word. His villainous turns in Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian prove he could bring an intriguing new take on the character.

Frank Castle / The Punisher - Pedro Pascal

Jon Bernthal Netflix

Frank Castle is one of the most intense Marvel heroes in its entire universe. Jon Bernthal really delivered with the role, bringing that intensity and brutality while also making Frank a more relatable character than just a killing machine.

Pedro Pascal has a lot of big roles currently on the go, but if he could fit it into his busy schedule, he could be a terrific Frank Castle. Pascal has proven himself as the badass antihero in The Mandalorian, but he also brings a lot of humanity to his role which could help to soften those edges on the character of The Punisher.

Danny Rand / Iron Fist - Henry Golding

Finn Jones Netflix

If there was one bit of miscasting in the Netflix shows, most would suggest it was Finn Jones as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. Jones' performance was a bit flat for some, but it was mostly due to seeing a white actor play a character who is meant to be the greatest martial arts fighter.

While Danny Rand is indeed white in the comics, casting an Asian actor in the role for the MCU seems appropriate. Henry Golding feels like he is more than ready to become a superhero. He could bring charm and humor to the Iron Fist and help make him a more popular character.

Luke Cage - Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Mike Coulter as Luke Cage/Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Fans were very excited to see Luke Cage finally appear in a live-action role. The character is so much fun as the hero-for-hire with impenetrable skin and a devastating punch. Mike Coulter was great in the role, but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II could be the right man to take over.

Abdul-Mateen II has been building quite the impressive career for himself with some very big roles on the horizon. While he's already in the DCEU as Black Manta, it would be a lot of fun to see him bring his talents to such a great hero like Luke Cage.

Jessica Jones - Annie Murphy

Krysten Ritter Netflix

Of the main Marvel heroes on Netflix, Jessica Jones was probably the least well-known. But thanks largely to the winning performance from Krysten Ritter, the super-powered private eye became one of the most memorable characters in that universe.

Based on her role as Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek, Annie Murphy might not seem like the obvious choice to play a hard-edged gumshoe. However, her upcoming series Kevin Can F**k Himself gives a promising glimpse at what she can do with a much rougher role while still being the hero.

Matt Murdock / Daredevil - Jonathan Groff

Charlie Cox as Daredevil on Netflix/Jonathan Groff

There have been many rumors about Charlie Cox appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Matt Murdock. If true, that opens the door for any of the Netflix characters to jump over to the MCU. But if it's not true, the MCU will likely want to bring the popular character into their universe before too long.

Jonathan Groff is a very talented actor who has built a very versatile career recently. Some may know him for his hilarious role in Hamilton while others might know him from Mindhunter. He could definitely bring intelligence and vulnerability to the role of Matt and it would be fun seeing him become an action hero as well.
