Chris Evans and Paul Rudd's first meeting on the set of Captain America: Civil War was actually pretty goofy. Evans has been an MCU mainstay since his debut as Steve Rogers/Captain America in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Civil War was Evans' seventh MCU appearance (counting the post-credits scene of Ant-Man), but that movie was only Rudd's second. He joined the franchise in 2015's Ant-Man as the titular bite-sized hero. Since then, the MCU has changed drastically. Evans officially hung up the shield last year while Rudd is expected to return for Ant-Man 3, which has yet to score an official release date but might be going into production next year.

While technically being billed as a Captain America movie, some view Civil War as The Avengers 2.5. The story focused on the brewing conflict between Cap and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) over the new Sokovia Accords, which sought to bring the Avengers under government control. Rudd's Scott Lang entered the story after being called in by Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who previously met Scott in Ant-Man. The scene where Scott meets Steve and the other Avengers is one of the more humorous moments of Civil War, largely thanks to Scott's infectious enthusiasm.

It turns out that scene also marked the first time Evans and Rudd met. The two actors reminisced about that moment for Variety's Actors on Actors series, and Rudd shared how Scott's nerves about meeting the Avengers echoed his own nerves. However, Evans recalled something different about that first day. As Evans explained, he, Mackie, and Scarlett Johansson got the idea to film some behind the scenes footage for a sort of "yearbook video." Evans began this project on Rudd's first day, and as he tells it:

I was like, “Hi, nice to meet you. You don’t know me, but can I get this?” It was you, Mackie, I think [Jeremy] Renner, Sebastian, and I just said, “Look, everyone, just dance for 30 seconds,” and you did it. You were a great sport. You willingly danced with little explanation from me, and then I never completed the video. I just abandoned it. But I got that footage of our first day of meeting of you dancing.

Paul Rudd and Chris Evans in Captain America Civil War

Rudd is well-known for his comedic nature, so this story doesn't seem surprising at all. After all, it's also why he makes such a good Ant-Man, seeing as his movies often put him into some truly wacky situations. Hopefully that will continue into Ant-Man 3though not much is known about that film. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed will be back to helm that installment, which might explore the effects of Scott being stuck in the Quantum Realm for five years.

The MCU cast is constantly growing, and it's always sweet to hear stories about how everyone seems to get along. Thanks to last year's Avengers: Endgamethe franchise is in a unique position now as it moves into Phase 4. While several beloved heroes are now gone, Phase 4 will introduce new characters like Shang-Chi, She-Hulk, and the Eternals. There's a lot for Marvel fans to be excited about, though it can still be nice to revisit old favorites like Civil War.
