All six original Avengers loom over their respective MCU Phase 4 replacements in new Marvel fan art. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in a transition period after the culmination of the Infinity Saga. While the next crossover event still isn't clear, Kevin Feige has started to lay the groundwork for it, including setting up the next generation of the Avengers.

Looking back at the MCU's history, Phase 1 was fairly straightforward with the introduction of all six original Avengers with the 2012 movie serving as the culmination of the franchise's first several years. Over time, the roster expanded with the addition of Wanda Maximoff, Vision, War Machine, and Falcon as seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This line-up didn't really stick, however, as Captain America: Civil War broke up the team. It wasn't until Avengers: Endgame that everyone got back together to fight Thanos. Moving forward, a new generation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes will inevitably re-assemble.

In new fan art, digital creator artoftimetravel on Instagram highlights how Marvel is replacing the original Avengers line-up in the MCU Phase 4. Kate Bishop, Mighty Thor, Captain America, War Machine, Yelena Belova, and She-Hulk inherit Hawkeye, Thor, Captain Rogers, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Hulk's respective spots in the franchise as suggested by the illustration. Out of all six new Avengers, only Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk has yet to make her MCU debut. The character isn't set to be introduced until her own series, She-Hulk on Disney+, where she will be sharing scenes with Bruce Banner. While Mighty Thor has yet to really make a splash in the franchise, audiences already know Jane Foster from the first Thor films. Her superhero arrival is all set for Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. Interestingly, out of this roster, only Sam Wilson was properly anointed as the next Captain America. Chosen by Steve Rogers himself at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Wilson officially assumed the position in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Meanwhile, Kate Bishop remains a mentee to Clint Barton after the events of Hawkeye.

Arguably the most interesting pick here, however, is War Machine as Iron Man's replacement. Tony Stark and Rhodey have a long friendship throughout the Infinity Saga, and their relationship is the most fleshed out in this Avengers line-up. That being said, Rhodey isn't exactly being set up to replace Iron Man; War Machine is already a hero of his own. Instead, Marvel Studios is introducing Riri Williams aka Ironheart, who is more of a direct successor of Iron Man in the comics. Before she spearheads her own series, Riri will debut in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
