Upcoming Disney+ show Loki has stopped filming due to the coronavirus pandemic. The virus, known as COVID-19, has wreaked havoc on many industries, especially entertainment. Even just Marvel and parent company Disney have had to make numerous changes to production schedules, release dates, and other properties, like the Disney Parks. Fellow MCU show The Falcon and the Winter Solider was one of the first shows from any studio to stop production. This is because the series was filming in Prague, where the effects of the coronavirus were felt more quickly than in the United States.

In the last two days, Disney has also ceased production on its upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid, as well as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In the case of that movie, its star, Simu Liu, said at the time he thought production on the Marvel film might begin again in a couple days. However, since then, dozens more TV shows and movies have stopped filming. The entire Arrowverse slate has stopped work, as have Netflix and NBCUniversal's shows.

The information about a possible Loki shutdown due to coronavirus comes from Reddit, with MarvelStudiosSpoilers sharing a Twitter exchange with someone claiming that both Loki and Netflix series Stranger Things are stopping production. Loki doesn't have an exact release date yet, so it's unclear if a possible delay in production would affect its release on Disney+. As of now, it's slated for a year away, Spring of 2021. Check out the information about the possible production delay on Loki below:

The delicate nature of MCU releases makes a production halt on any Marvel property especially difficult. Marvel plans movie releases years in advance; at this time basically all of Phase 4 is already mapped out. The Disney+ shows like Loki also take place in the MCU, making matters even more complicated. Some, like WandaVision, are also expected to directly tie in with upcoming films. In that show's case, it's expected to have an impact on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If one gets delayed but not another, that could cause issues.

It's likely part of the reason why Marvel hasn't yet pushed back Black Widow's upcoming May release date. The movie could possibly take the place of The Eternals in November, however, that would set off a chain reaction in the MCU, affecting release dates for years to come. The coronavirus pandemic is uncharted territory for all industries, and its complete effect will likely remain unknown for some time. However, safety is still the most important thing, making a possible production halt on Loki not only understandable, but also the right call.
