Dan Slott is taking a break from the adventures of the Armored Avenger. The writer will be leaving the book as of Iron Man 2020 #6, after penning the ongoing escapades of Tony Stark and company for two years. The comic will be co-written by Christos Gage with art from Pete Woods.

Slott broke the news on Twitter that the upcoming comic - which marks his twenty-fifth script - will be his last one in the Iron Man title. Slott also said this was the plan from the start. In particular, Iron Man 2020 has seen the return of Tony's long-lost brother Arno, who has usurped both his control of Stark Industry as well as identity as Iron Man. This was far from the only bombshell revelation dropped during Slott's run, which also revealed Tony Stark himself to be a cloned consciousness after the real Tony Stark perished during Civil War II. This positioned Tony to be the head of a robot revolution resisting his brother Arno's plans to clamp down on artificial intelligence throughout the Marvel Universe.

Slott is perhaps best known for his historic run on Amazing Spider-Man, which ran from 2010 to 2018 and saw several major storylines, including Spider-Island, The Superior Spider-Man as well as Spider-Verse. Prior to taking over Amazing Spider-Man, Slott also found success writing She-Hulk for Marvel. In addition to his current run on Iron Man 2020, Slott is also writing Fantastic Four as well.

The revelations of Tony Stark's cloned origins have been a controversial addition to Slott's storyline, to say the least. In addition to leading "Tony" to question the very nature and purpose of his existence, the move also brought real consequences to his death at the hands of Captain Marvel in the events of the Civil War II storyline way back in 2016. This is to say nothing of the return of Arno himself, who has managed to revive his parents Maria and Howard Stark through a similar cloned consciousness process. With Tony leads Marvel's robots - including Machine Man and HERBIE among many others - into a battle against his brother, suffice to say, there's a lot happening in Slott's Iron Man 2020.

Ultimately, how Iron Man 2020 will be remembered will come down to how Slott and his creative team handle the upcoming conclusion to their robot revolution. Will Arno Stark be defeated? What will this mean for Howard and Maria Stark? Will the real Tony Stark please stand up? How all these questions are answered will determine if Iron 2020 rises to the level of Slott's previous hits like Superior Spider-Man - or head to the junkyard instead.

Iron Man 2020 #6, written by Dan Slott and Christos Gage with art by Pete Woods, is tentatively scheduled to be released on June 24th.
