Marvel's Hulk/Wolverine hybrid is getting his own series, and the cover for the first issue has arrived along with new details. Earlier this year, Marvel teased fans with a mysterious image seeming to show the Hulk with adamantium claws. It was soon revealed, however, that this creature was something new entirely. Marvel often uses the fact that some of its key writers tackle disparate titles to instigate a unique type of crossover. This year, that took the form of Greg Pak pulling together the worlds of his Weapon X and Totally Awesome Hulk books to kick of the 'Weapons of Mutant Destruction' storyline.

Kicking off in the one-shot Weapons of Mutant Destruction #1, Amadeus Cho joins forces with Logan, Domino, Sabertooth and the rest of the newly established Weapon X team. Their mission involves none other than William Stryker and what looks like a reactivated Weapon X program. Playing out across Weapon X #5–6 and Totally Awesome Hulk #20–22, the plot slowly builds until a hybrid of the Hulk and Wolverine has been created. Now, the fearsome new character is getting his own series.

Marvel (via CBR) released the cover art and synopsis for Weapon H #1, which comes from Pak and artist Cory Smith (X-Men Blue). Arriving next March, the story will fully integrate Weapon H into the greater Marvel Universe and provide one of comics' most unstoppable characters ever. Check out the cover for issue #1 by Leinil Yu below, along with the synopsis:

The Weapon X program has done it, at the cost of their own destruction: they’ve completed their biggest and most dangerous experiment yet, a hybrid of Hulk and Wolverine DNA known as WEAPON H. Now, he’s ready to take on the world – and he means business.

The cover not only shows how Weapon H will differ in appearance from Hulk, but also shows that he will still be a military asset in this new storyline. Wendigo can be seen lurking in the background here, suggesting that Weapon H face-off with the supervillain at some point. Given that the beast has been a foe for both Wolverine and the Hulk in the past, it's fitting that he will square off against their offshoot.

Along with the cover and synopsis, Weapon H editor Darren Shan opened up about what the new series will explore:

"Greg Pak wrote one of the biggest and most action packed Hulk stories ever in Planet Hulk…so it only made sense that he brought those same sensibilities to Weapon H. We’re going to pit him against the biggest threats of the Marvel Universe that you can imagine, starting with a new kind of Wendigo! And then Cory Smith is going to multiply that times ten and smash the hell out of it with his incredible art! Whether you read his first appearance in Weapon X: The Hunt for Weapon H or not, you’re going to find that we only scratched the surface of this bombastic new character!"

From Shan's statement, it looks as if Weapon H will be deployed to take on massive threats. While the help will certainly be appreciated, it's hard to imagine Weapon H not following in the footsteps of its progenitors and becoming too much for the government to handle. The Wendigo in this storyline will also have some new traits of its own, meaning a whole new era of Marvel monsters will be kicking off when Weapon H #1 arrives.
