The popularity of comic books and the vast world of superheroes is certainly nothing new for a huge portion of dedicated fans. But over the past few years, the superhero film genre has introduced this world to many who didn’t grow up as faithful followers of Marvel or DC heroes - and who are now very interested in anything and everything superhero related.
This rise in the popularity of all things superhero has arguably been a blessing for comic book fans of every caliber and has even lead to some interesting merchandising as of late. Who among us can forget the Iron Man-themed Xbox console or the Avengers waffle iron? And while typically the sort of items that superheroes end up customizing are in the small to mid-sized range, lately it’s looking like the sky is literally the limit for comic book themed merchandise.
Case in point is the brand new line of Marvel-themed motorcycles from Harley-Davidson. That’s right, the world’s most well known motorcycle manufacturer has joined forces with one of the world’s most popular media conglomerates to create this rather stunning array of motorcycles. You can catch a glimpse of the bikes (which range from superhero to supervillain models) in the above video or see the entire lineup of customized Harley’s (h/t CBR) here.
Altogether there are 25 different motorcycles, ranging from Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Captain America, Spider-Gwen, Black Widow, The Punisher, The Hulk, Drax, Black Panther and more. The customization of these motorcycles runs concurrent with the 75th anniversary of Captain America and was done at participating Harley-Davidson dealerships across Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, that’s where these bikes will remain. This customized Marvel line isn’t available for purchase and can only be won by residents of Australia and New Zealand through voting for their favorite bike. Yes, that is indeed a let down for those of us in other parts of the world who love Harley-Davidson motorbikes and Marvel comics.
Of all the comic book-themed merchandising that has been released over the years, this is surely one of the most ambitious and thrilling efforts. The fact that these bikes aren’t being made in other countries is definitely going to be a point of frustration for some, but those with serious cash to their name and a bit of determination will likely be able to pick one up online once the contest winners are decided. There’s also the option of getting friends or family living in Australia or New Zealand to enter for you - if that’s a possibility.
Harley Davidson motorcycles have never been known for their low cost, so the majority of us can simply enjoy the fact that these bikes are even in existence – because after all, they’re truly something special to behold. Perhaps Marvel and Harley-Davidson will collaborate for a similar line of customized bikes elsewhere, but for now it’s up to a lucky few to delight in something very unique and rare.
