Karen Gillan entered the MCU in 2014's Guardians of The Galaxy and has since returned in three other Marvel projects, having an increasingly pivotal role in each subsequent movie. Starting out as Thanos' minion daughter and evolving to the Guardian of the Galaxy she is now, Nebula and Gamora have had a major development both as characters and sisters. When fans first meet them, they do not appear close at all.

Nebula has been used for comedic and dramatic purposes throughout her movies and, as a result, has had some iconic one-liners. Here are ten of her best from the last six years.

"Garden Of The Galaxy." - GOTGV. 2

Nebula had a slightly more comedic role in Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 compared to the first movie. This was partly due to the increased comedic nature of the sequel compared to the first movie. In Volume 2., during a conversation between Nebula and Gamora, Nebula mistakingly states "look at you now...a garden of the galaxy." To which Gamora corrects "Guard-IAN of the galaxy, why would I be a garden of the galaxy?", as Nebula stares at her slightly embarrassed.

At this point in the movie, Nebula is still coming to grips with not being her father's minion and becoming a member of the team.

"I Know You're Both Crazy."

During the third act of Guardians of The Galaxy, while Ronan is attacking Xandar, Nebula is clinging on to the side of Ronan's ship. When Gamora goes to save her she asks Nebula to join them and says "you know [Ronan's] crazy!" To which she replies "I know you're both crazy" before cutting off her own robotic hand and escaping from the battle to fend for herself.

Fans see that Nebula has no true allegiance to Ronan and it only existed because of her father and how she felt like she had to please him. She had very little choice in the matter, a fact that fans learn is a very common theme in Nebula's life.

"I Will Tear Him Apart Slowly."

One of Nebula's small monologues in Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 comes in response to Kraglin asking what she is going to do with her share of the bounty they will receive from capturing Rocket and Yondu. She replies with...

"As a child, my father would have Gamora and me battle one another in training. Every time my sister prevailed... my father would replace a piece of me with machinery, claiming he wanted me to be her equal. But she won... again and again, and again, never once refraining. So after I murder my sister, I will buy a warship with every conceivable instrument of death. I will hunt my father like a dog, and I will tear him apart slowly... piece by piece until he knows some semblance of the profound and unceasing pain I knew every single day."

Even though this quote was used to build up to Kraglin's comedic reply, the base of it is Nebula venting a life full of frustration and torture.

"I Saved You, You Stupid Fox."

Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

This comes from Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 when Nebula is talking about Rocket. This is one of two occasions that Nebula calls Rocket a Fox, as well as calling him "a woodland creature" at another point in the movie.

Not only does this add to the list of incorrect names that Rocket has been called, "Ratchet" in Avengers: Endgame and "Rabbit" in Avengers: Infinity War, it also begs the question of how Nebula knows what a fox is?

"Rhodey, Careful On Re-Entry, There's An Idiot In The Landing Zone."

Said in Avengers: Endgame as Nebula walks from the Guardians ship to the Avengers compound and talks to Rhodey over the comms referencing Scott Lang as the idiot. The biggest shame for Scott is the only thing he said to Nebula was that her ship was "awesome."

Scott is clearly the most innocent of the team as he hasn't fought the types of enemies that the others have, but it's clear that Nebula has still retained some of her savage qualities.

"Well Hello Boys...It's Not Ripe."

Another comedic relief moment from Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2. Nebula spends the first part of the movie in captivity by The Sovereign and then by The Guardians. When onboard the Milano, Nebula tries to eat a Yaro Root on the ship multiple times. The first time Gamora warns her that it's not ripe, and her second attempt is thwarted when Gamora throws the fruit away.

Soon after Nebula breaks free and attacks (but at the same time saves) Rocket from The Ravagers. After firing the shot she dramatically states "Well hello boys..." and takes a bite of the root, before realizing and then saying herself "...it's not ripe."

"All Any Of You Do Is Yell At Each Other"

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Gamora, Nebula, Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket

In Volume 2, Nebula has now been with the Guardians for a short while now and she sees that they argue and shout at each other a lot. By Nebula's logic, they can't be friends if they act this way towards each other. She states "All any of you do is yell at each other. You're not friends", to which Drax replies "You're right, we're family."

Family is a luxury that Nebula has never had, all she can remember is being tortured by her father and living in her sister's shadow. Even though she has lived a long life, she has no understanding of what it means to be a family.

"He Won't Let me."

Nebula kills her past self to save Gamora

In Avengers: Endgame once 2014 Gamora frees 2025 Nebula, they both go to 2014 Nebula to convince her to join them. They try to show her that the future is bright for both of them but not with Thanos. 2025 Nebula says to her past self "You can change." to which 2014 Nebula replies "He won't let me."

Again, this just shows how broken and scared Nebula is of Thanos, and how all her life has been devoted to serving him. Gamora also says "you don't have to do this" and she replies "I am this", showing that this nature has been drilled into her so much that she identifies with being whatever she needs to be to serve her father. However, there are still many questions about Nebula's past that are still unclear.

"Your Choices Were Him Or A Tree"

Once 2014 Gamora sees and saves Peter Quill in Avengers: Endgame, he goes over to be with her. As she has no idea who he is she gives him two swift knees in the groin and says "this is the one? Seriously?!" and Nebula replies "your choices were him or a tree." I guess Drax and Rocket weren't included in Gamora's options.

There's little doubt that going after Gamora will be a large part of the third Guardians movie, but fans know very little details at the moment other than James Gunn being attached and the regular cast is returning.

"I Just Wanted A Sister."

Gamora and Nebula discover something in a cave

After a 4-minute long fight scene between Nebula and Gamora, fans get a glimpse into their true feelings towards each other when Nebula says "You were the one who wanted to win and I just wanted a sister!" From this moment audiences realize that Nebula's hatred and torture does not only derive from failing her father, but all Nebula has wanted her whole life was to be a sister to Gamora.

After a life of serving and failing Thanos, Nebula only had Gamora but Gamora was obsessed with winning and constantly beat Nebula in combat. And as a result of Gamora winning, Thanos felt he had to improve Nebula, hence why her body has been replaced with so many, supposedly superior, parts.
