A possible roster for Mortal Kombat and Injustice developer NetherRealm Studio's rumored Marvel game has potentially leaked, featuring a packed lineup of big-name characters and some obscure fan favorites. Hints that an Injustice-like Marvel fighting title centered around the House Of Ideas have been circulating for quite some time now, much to the delight of players who enjoyed the Mortal Kombat developer’s DC-based offerings in the Injustice games.

NetherRealm head Ed Boon has fueled these rumors with some Marvel-related shoutouts on social media over the past few months, and recent reports that his studio is now finished adding new content to Mortal Kombat 11 has left fans guessing about NetherRealm’s next project. Among these discussions is exactly who among Marvel’s iconic roster of costumed heroes and villains would appear in a hypothetical NetherRealm game, and now players might have a hint as to which Marvel characters could be entering the arena if the rumors are true.

As spotted by sister site CBR, a Reddit leaker posting as Comicconthrowway recently shared a leak from 4Chan that claims to know the roster of NetherRelam’s rumored Marvel fighting game. According to the purported leak, the game's lineup will consist of an eclectic blend of A-list heroes and lesser-known characters, including Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Wolverine, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Groot & Rocket Racoon (who will apparently share a slot as a duo character), Blade, Gamora, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Gambit, Shang- Chi, Kitty Pryde, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, Hulk, Skaar, Doctor Octopus, Blob, Mojo, Bullseye, Mephisto, Daken, Arnim, Zola, Venom, Abomination, Deacon Frost, and Madame Masque. Additionally, the lovable Merc With A Mouth Deadpool is said to be featured as a pre-order bonus, and future DLC fighters may include Daredevil and Cyclops, along with guest characters Raiden (Mortal Kombat) and Kylo Ren (Star Wars).

Marvel Fighting Game From Mortal Kombat Developer Rumored

Additionally, the leak contains some possible insight into the storyline of NetherRealm’s supposed Marvel title, which is described as being similar to the Injustice series and "very loosely" based on the World War Hulk comic arc. The leak also alleges that the costume redesigns that NetherRealm has in mind for characters like Spider-Man could divide fans like the first Injustice game’s armored look for heroes like The Flash did, but NetherRealm is supposedly going to add alternate skins based on the MCU as DLC later on.

All of this is still a rumor posted on 4Chan of all places, so fans looking forward to a NetherRealm-developed Marvel fighting game should take the information presented with a grain of salt. Still, the rumored roster of characters is an interesting mix of popular MCU heroes and little surprises like the Blob and Deacon Frost, and villains like Doc Ock could be fun to play as in a 2D NetherRealm fighting game. The suggested plotline also makes sense for a fighting game, especially given NetherRealm’s proven talent for rewarding plots in the recent Mortal Kombat and Injustice titles. Of course, fans will have to wait for future developments to see if there is any truth to these Marvel X NetherRealm rumors.
