Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailer is released, showing off new footage from the Disney+ Captain America spinoff TV show. Although Captain America (Chris Evans) starred in three of his own solo movies, the Marvel Studios trilogy also worked to introduce fan-favorite characters like Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie). Last viewers saw of Captain America's closest friends, they were bidding Steve Rogers - and Evans himself - farewell from the MCU. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve handed off the shield to Falcon, making Sam Wilson the new Captain America.

Although Sam and Bucky aren't the best of friends, they find themselves allies in Marvel Studios' upcoming Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show. Exact plot details for the show haven't been officially revealed, but based on the Falcon and the Winter Soldier teaser released in early 2020, it seems Sam has some competition for the role of Captain America. Meanwhile, Bucky's story will see him face off again with Captain America: Civil War villain Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl). Further, the show is also bringing back Steve Rogers' ally Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). Now new footage further teases the upcoming Marvel show.

Check out the trailer and poster below.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Poster

While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailer doesn't reveal too much about the mission that forces Sam and Bucky to team up, it does introduce a new group of villains, with masks that have red handprints on them. They appear to be a paramilitary force that faces off against Sam Wilson. Based on Falcon and the Winter Soldier merch, the group calls themselves the Flag Smashers, which certainly sets them up to be antagonists to a character like Captain America - whose costume is literally inspired by the American flag. It's unclear what exactly puts them on Sam Wilson's radar or if they're somehow involved with the storyline that also deals with John Walker (Wyatt Russell), who dons the Captain America suit in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier footage.

The legacy of Captain America is one of the major themes in the early part of this new trailer, but that gives way to focusing on Sam and Bucky as characters. The latter part of the video focuses heavily on the banter between the characters. This was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, when both Sam and Bucky were on Team Captain America and that forced them to work together. But as this new Falcon and the Winter Soldier footage shows, Sam and Bucky aren't friends, they're allies who were both friends with Steve Rogers. Though that may change by the end of the series, viewers will have to tune in to find out. For now, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally has a release date, and this trailer has revealed a great deal of new footage to tide fans over until March.
