Marvel Studios released the very first Eternals footage, revealing an initial look at the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. After wrapping up Phase 3 of the MCU in 2019 with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios had delay their Phase 4 plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic and sat out 2020 entirely. Now, 2021 is jam-packed with MCU offerings, with four movies slated for the back half of the year. Black Widow will hit theaters and Disney+ in July, followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in September, then Eternals in November and finally rounded out by Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home in December. Recently, Marvel released the first Shang-Chi trailer, and is clearly kicking off promoting their theatrical releases.

Confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Eternals is an adaptation of the same-named team from the comics directed by the now-Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao (Nomadland). Eternals has a talented, A-list ensemble cast that includes the likes of Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris and Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo. They're joined in Eternals by Gemma Chan as Sersi, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Lia McHugh as Sprite and Barry Keoghan as Druig. At D23 Expo 2019, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also announced Game of Thrones' Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman in Eternals, who becomes the Black Knight in the comics. Now, fans can get their first look at Eternals in the film's footage.

Today, Marvel Studios unveiled the first Eternals footage as part of a longer MCU movie trailer hyping the Mouse House's many upcoming theatrical films. Check out the footage in the video below at the 2:20 mark.

Although there isn't much in the way of Eternals footage, there is a shot teasing the team's superhero costumes - though the characters are in silhouette against a sunrise/sunset. There's also a shot of Nanjiani's Kingo, McHugh's Sprite, Chan's Sersi, Madden's Ikaris, Jolie's Thena and Lee's Gilgamesh standing together, but they're in plain clothes. Perhaps the most exciting bit of the footage is the last two shots, which show Jolie's Thena wielding a glowing sword, offering a glimpse at what to expect from Eternals' superheroes. Beyond those shots, there's also one of Hayek as Ajak, riding a horse on some kind of plain, in the MCU Phase 4 trailer. While it's exciting to see some Eternals footage, there's still plenty this teaser doesn't offer.

As of now, it's unclear when the first full Eternals movie trailer might be released. Considering the film is currently slated to hit theaters about a month after Shang-Chi, it's possible we'll get the first full teaser four weeks after Shang-Chi's trailer dropped - which would be two weeks from now. However, it's also possible Marvel will want to focus its marketing efforts on Black Widow and Shang-Chi for a little longer, and may hold off the Eternals trailer until later in the summer. Since Zhao is still working on making sure Eternals is completely finished, perhaps Marvel will wait until the final cut's done. For now, fans will have to wait and see when a full trailer might drop, but until then, this first Eternals footage effectively hypes the upcoming Marvel movie.
