A recent photo with cast members from Eternals has sparked speculation that Legion's Dan Stevens may have joined the ensemble. Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals will be the second movie in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a November 2020 release date. Marvel Studios finally confirmed this summer that Eternals is happening, with the movie heavily featured at both San Diego Comic-Con and D23.
In both instances, Marvel has decided to turn the focus on the incredible cast that will appear. They confirmed a star-studded line-up that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, and Salma Hayek, as well as more recent additions like Gemma Chan, Barry Keoghan, and Kit Harington. Most of the ensemble, if not all of them, are now in London so that production on Eternals can begin. This led to Jolie's blonde-haired Thena being revealed in the first batch of set photos.
Well, in a recent post by star Kumail Nanjiani, he may have accidentally revealed that Dan Stevens is part of Eternals' cast too. The actor shared a photo on Instagram of him, his wife Emily Gordon, Eternals co-star Brian Tyree Henry, and Stevens hanging out in London. Even though Stevens has not been linked to the Marvel movie, he is familiar with Marvel through Legion and is part of the Disney family thanks to Beauty and the Beast. Now, this photo teases that a role in the MCU could be next.
As exciting as it would be to see Stevens join Eternals, this is by no means confirmation that it has happened. He is a London native, after all, so he could just be hanging out with some fellow actors during their free time. He also joined the cast of EuroVision last month, which saw the UK be the home for production. The Will Ferrell comedy did begin filming earlier this summer, but it is unknown if it has finished yet. If it has or Stevens has simply finished his part, then he would appear to have an opening to appear in Marvel's upcoming blockbuster movie.
More casting announcements for Eternals are on the way too according to Richard Madden, so Stevens could potentially be one of the exciting additions he previously teased. If this does pan out, the big question will be who is Stevens going to play. Most of the main Eternals characters have been cast already, but there is one from the early character breakdowns that could be a fit for him. Those breakdowns mentioned that Thanos' brother Eros aka Starfox would appear in Eternals. As an incredibly charming and powerful hero who goes on to become an Avenger, Stevens could fit nicely in that role.
As of right now though, it is unclear whether Eros is part of the story Eternals will tell, regardless of whether or not Stevens will play him. If he has joined the cast of Eternals in some form, there is a chance that it could be confirmed sooner than later. But, if Stevens isn't in this MCU movie, then it hopefully won't be much longer before he does find a spot in the universe.
