According to one of the stars of Eternals, Marvel’s new superhero tale will be the MCU’s most sci-fi movie yet. Marvel Studios is entering a very interesting stage of its cinematic journey. After over a decade of fans attaching themselves to various characters such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America, Avengers: Endgame saw the journey of many characters come to an end. Kevin Feige and his team are now entering a transitional phase with their phase 4 projects. Some familiar characters are moving to TV shows, and then new faces like the group known as The Eternals will be introduced to the fans.

Based on the comics by Jack Kirby, Eternals revolves around a group of immortal beings that the entities known as the Celestials created. Their abilities allow them to combat the evil Deviants that were also created by the Celestials. Despite an all-star cast featuring names like Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Richard Madden, not a lot of information has come out regarding the upcoming Marvel project. The official Eternals synopsis confirms the events in the film will take place after Endgame, and set photos have shown Chan’s Sersi and Kit Harington’s Black Knight will in fact be romantically linked as they are in the comic books. As well as the set photos, Nanjiani’s shirtless image, which showed off his new muscular physique for his role as Kingo, also added to fan excitement. Nanjiani has continued to build intrigue by claiming the upcoming Eternals film will be the most sci-fi film out of all the past MCU entries.

In an interview with EW, Nanjiani spoke about Eternals, and in his interview, he said: "It's really, really an epic." And while it is a “superhero story,” it’s “the most sci-fi of all the Marvel movies and it’s the most epic of all the marvel movies.” He also highlighted that the story does span “thousands of years,” making it unlike “other Marvel movies.”

Marvel has a history of delving into sci-fi, particularly with Thor, Captain Marvel, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but the fact the movie is about a group of beings that are not from Earth, and the story of Eternals takes place over 7,000 years will make fans believe that Nanjiani’s sci-fi statement may be an accurate one. However, Nanjiani referring to this as the “most epic” Marvel movie may raise eyebrows as fans did witness an epic conclusion with Endgame, which also featured an all-star cast, as well as time travel.

More than anything, Nanjiani’s comments just add to the excitement and the mystery surrounding Eternals. Audiences may now wonder how or what will make this “the most” sci-fi film in the MCU’s history. Thus far, a variety of images, such as Eternals set photos and concept art for a Celestial, have given us the best insight into the film. But with a November release date, fans will likely get more information sooner rather than later about Eternals.
