The Eternals were a fairly unknown superhero team within the Marvel universe until they were given the spotlight in the recent MCU movie. This race of cosmic beings who operated for centuries among humanity made for a fascinating and complex group of heroes.

Now that fans are more familiar with the members of Eternals, they can choose which of the many heroes in the group stand out as favorites. From those made popular by the movie to those who have yet to appear on the big screen, fans on Ranker have highlighted the best Eternals members.

Phastos

Phastos operates as the master technologist for the Eternals, a brilliant engineer, and inventor. In the comics, his powers consist of superhuman speed and strength as well as the ability to shoot beams of energy.

In the movie, he is played by Brian Tyree Henry and his powers lean into his history as an inventor. He is the member of the team who helps the human race advance through his helpful inventions. But much like his comic book counterpart, he hates war and is disturbed to see his teachings used for destructive means.

Khoryphos

Khoryphos in Eternals comics

Khoryphos is one of the fan-favorite Eternals who was not included in the movie. However, this musically inclined Eternal may have helped to influence some of the cinematic characters. He possesses the power to control people's minds with his magic mandolin which could have inspired Druig's mind control in Eternals.

Khoryphos also has a star-crossed romance which has possibly helped him stand out in the eyes of fans. He fell in love with Yrdisis, a Deviant woman and one of the Eternals' sworn enemies.

Kingo

Kingo and the Avengers

It is quite surprising that Kingo doesn't rank higher on the list of Eternals members as his character was the scene-stealer of the movie. Thanks to Kumail Nanjiani's hilarious performance, Kingo was an entertaining yet also formidable warrior.

The comics offer a much different version of Kingo who operates as a samurai on Earth for a time. however, similar to the storyline in the movie which sees Kingo as a Bollywood star, the comics depicted him as a movie star in the modern world of humans.

Druig

Druig in Eternals comics

While many of the Eternals are heroic warriors in the comics, some have gone down darker paths. Such is the case for Druig who is the cousin of Ikaris but has battled him countless times. In the human world, he became a villain of the Soviet Union for a time.

The movie uses Druig's villainous past in the comics as a clever red herring. He is presented as the black sheep of the Eternals family and the most likely to be a traitor. But while he rubs some of his teammates the wrong way, he ultimately cares deeply about humanity.

The Forgotten One

As his name suggests, The Forgotten One is one of the more mysterious Eternals. He is one of the most formidable warriors on the Eternals and has gone by many legendary names throughout history, including Hero and Hercules.

He was also known as Gilgamesh for a time, and given the strength of Gilgamesh in the movie, it is clear that the character is represented in the movie in that role. He has also fought alongside famous warriors like Achilles and King David and is known for remaining in solitude away from the other Eternals.

Sersi

Eternals Sersi

Though Eternals was very much an ensemble movie, Sersi was the closest thing to a protagonist. She was a gentler Eternal than some of the others but possessed incredible power that even she was not aware of.

Though there are several aspects of her character in the comics that were changed for the movie, some key elements remain. Some of these include her power to manipulate material, her affection for humans, and her romantic relationship with Dane Whitman aka Black Knight.

Ajak

Ajak in Eternals comics

Ajak is perhaps the character who was changed the most from the comics to the movie. Salma Hayek helps to bring the character to life in Eternals and serves as the "Prime Eternal" or the leader of the group. She also possesses the power to heal.

In the comics, Ajak is a male character and not the team leader. It could be that the character's popularity among fans has grown thanks to this more prominent role in the movie.

Ikaris

Eternals Forever cover featuring Ikaris

Though none of the Eternals were household names before the movie, Ikaris was likely the most famous of the team. He is the protagonist in the comics and the most powerful of the main Eternals team. In many ways, his powers make him resemble a Marvel version of Superman.

The movie uses Ikaris's status as the most notable Eternal to pull off a clever twist. It is revealed that Ikaris was aware of the plan to destroy Earth and turns against his teammates when they try to stop it. It helped make him one of the most complex characters in the story.

Makkari

Makkari in the Marvel comics Eternals

While there are a number of notable speedsters in the Marvel universe, Makkari is certainly in the running (no pun intended) as one of the fastest. While many of the Eternals share similar abilities, Makkari's super-speed really helps her to stand out from the rest.

The movie changes Makkari's original comic book appearance as a white man to a Black woman. Deaf actor Lauren Ridoff also brings an extra depth to the character even if Makkari doesn't have a huge role in the movie.

Thena

Thena from the Eternals comic book

It stands to reason that the most popular Eternals member who be played by the biggest star in the cast for the movie. Angelina Jolie steps into the role of the Eternals' most fearless warrior. She is a bold and powerful fighter and the movie depicts a charming relationship with Gilgamesh.

Thena's reputation as a badass was started long before the movie. Given the type of warrior she is, it is no surprise that Thena is the most popular of the Eternals.
