Breathtaking new fan art envisions what Angelina Jolie could look like as Thena in Marvel's Eternals. The film was officially confirmed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con during Marvel's grandiose Hall H panel, with a release date set for November of next year. The adaptation of Jack Kirby's original comic books is being brought to the big screen by acclaimed director Chloé Zhao (The Rider) with a star-studded cast that includes Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, and Angelina Jolie amongst many others. Recently, reports emerged that actress Gemma Chan is in talks to be joining the cast alongside Dunkirk actor Barry Keoghan as well.
For being a lesser-known Marvel comic, the film has managed to tack on some major A-list talent that made for quite the thrilling debut during Marvel's Hall H panel. Eternals is just one of five feature films set to release throughout Marvel's Phase 4, which will all be occurring within the span of two years. The other highly-anticipated films that were announced were Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. Following the exhilarating array of announcements, fan art began to flood the internet, with a variety of pieces hitting the web ranging from empowering posters for Jane Foster's Mighty Thor to imaginative digital artwork revolving around Ludi Lin as Shang-Chi.
Now, digital artist Carlos Gzz is contributing to the flood of Marvel artistry with artwork that showcases what Angelina Jolie would look like as Thena in Eternals. Surrounded by a vibrant, cosmic background, the artwork shows off Jolie's Thena in golden armor with a crown to match and a red flowing cape. Check out the incredible image here:
Thena, an educated warrior that hails from ancient Greece, is one of the most prominent members of the Eternals. Considering that Thena and the other Eternals currently have no ties to the broader Marvel universe, many have speculated as to how their movie will tie in with the ever-expanding MCU and their future phases. As far as the broad strokes of the plot go, the story will follow the group of immortal heroes as they're sent to Earth to defend humans against the terrifying Deviants. With most of the details being kept under wraps, Marvel fans can only hope that there'll be some surprises coming around the corner.
Marvel's Phase 4 is already shaping up to be a thrilling, diverse, and progressive step forward for the comic book studio. Over time, Marvel's films have only gotten bigger, bolder, and more impressive with each feature. Avengers: Endgame was proof alone that the studio consistently has impressive surprises up their sleeve and truly admires their devoted audiences. Having their films jump into even more cosmic territory will be a fun way to expand their universe and open up a world of possibilities that the company could dive into later down the line. And even though it's still a long way out, Eternals will surely be another top-notch installment in their already incredibly impressive belt.
