What happens when two of the fastest speeders in comics fight in a head-to-head matchup? A crossover event from the mid-90s saw the Flash take on Quicksilver with a victor being named - and it was a pretty one-sided affair.

The DC vs. Marvel (1996) crossover events saw some of the biggest heroes from each comic publisher face off against one another as the victors were decided by fan voting. Captain America took on Batman, Wolverine fought Lobo in a battle of the unkillable's, Silver Surfer and Green Lantern battled in space, and Wonder Woman came face-to-face with Storm. The series was a comic book fan's dream, as the overarching story didn't matter all that much since it was just a ton of fun to see Marvel and DC Comics characters go up against one another. One of the fastest fights was between the Flash and Quicksilver.

The fight between the Flash and Quicksilver was fairly one-sided. In the tussle, the Scarlet Speedster runs circles around Pietro Maximoff, despite the hero being one of the fastest beings in the Marvel Universe. Quicksilver can just stand and watch as the Flash runs circles around him, getting punches thrown at him in quick succession. However, their fight is interrupted as a truck carrying gasoline suddenly comes in their path. The Flash immediately abandons the fight and brings nearby people to safety before the truck explodes. In one of the cheapest moves in the crossover, Quicksilver punches the Flash (whose lungs are filled with smoke) and knocks his fellow speedster to the ground.

Flash Quicksilver Battle

Unfortunately for Quicksilver, his cheap tactics don't lead him to victory. As Pietro has an internal monologue about getting angry that someone was faster than him, the Flash quickly rises from the grounds and delivers a handful of punches straight to the mutant speedster's face. "Almost had me there, fella!" the Flash proclaims, "But he who hesitates... is lost."

In the end, the fight was extremely one-sided. Quicksilver was only ever able to overtake the Flash after his opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by doing the right thing and abandoning the fight to save innocent lives. It was a scuzzy move by Quicksilver and it backfired immediately. The fans made the right decision in this case. Quicksilver isn't to be messed with, but he's not in the same league as the Flash, even with the cheap shot. The Flash is the more powerful speedster and the fight proved it. He earned the victory.
