Perhaps, the most dreamt about crossover fight for comic book fans is Marvel's Avengers taking on the heroes of DC's Justice League. For those clamoring for a modern interpretation of the potential battle, artist Stephen Byrne (Wonder Twins) has you covered. Byrne has illustrated an epic battle featuring the most popular superheroes on the planet.

The Avengers and Justice League have sparred before, as the Marvel vs DC crossover event in the mid-90s featured the two supergroups fought one another with fans determining the winner. They've even battled in canon in Avengers/JLA (2003). Over the past few weeks, Byrne has brought some of his own Marvel vs DC Comics match-ups to life including Wonder Woman becoming Thor, Wolverine taking on Batman atop the Batmobile, and Harley Quinn matching wits with Deadpool. However, Byrne's best illustration might be his interpretation of the Justice League and Avengers battling in the sky in one incredible fight.

On his Twitter account, Byrne shared the image of the Justice League battling the Avengers. In the glorious illustration, Batman and Captain America go head-to-head, with Cap wielding Mjolnir. Thor and Wonder Woman fight as the God of Thunder calls lightning from the sky with Mjolnir. Diana doesn't seem phased as she ties up Thor's arm with the Lasso of Truth. In what would prove to be an unfair battle in art later by Byrne, Iron Man tries his best to take on Superman by blasting explosives at him - unfortunately, that was unlikely to make much of a dent in the Man of Steel.

Justice League:Avengers Fight

It's a great action shot of some of the most beloved characters exchanging blows. It's too bad Marvel and DC can't come to terms on doing a joint modern crossover, because they would have the perfect artist in Byrne to tackle the project. He's shown through his numerous illustrations that not only can he draw the heck out of the heroes, but the moments, even when they're just a panel long, feel cohesive and real to both the DC and Marvel Universe.

Hopefully, the Avengers and Justice League would realize they are essentially fighting on the same team before really exchanging brutal blows. Although, it would be a lot of fun to see who would come out victorious in this three-on-three match-up. It would no doubt be a close call - but Wonder Woman and Superman mixed with the smarts of Batman might prove too tough for Earth's Mightest Heroes to overcome.
