Many MCU romantic couples are based on pairings found in Marvel Comics. For instance, from the Avengers world, there’s Scarlet Witch and The Vision, whose romance is told over the course of several important Marvel Comics storylines. But Wanda has had other romances among the Avengers that are likely to remain only in the comics.

Wanda has been romantic with Hawkeye, for instance. While it's still a possibility in the MCU, it's probably as unlikely as seeing Black Widow and Daredevil together now that Natasha Romanoff is no longer alive in the screen franchise. Still, anything is possible in the MCU, just as it is in the comic books.

Marvel rolls on with both movies and Disney+ shows, and many of the romances from the comics haven't shown up yet in the movies. While Ms. Marvel showed Kamala Khan's brief interest in Kamran, that ended before it ever had a chance to get going. However, there are other relationships in the comics that will almost surely never appear in the MCU movies or TV shows based on when the characters showed up, with She-Hulk just now debuting on Disney+, meaning her relationship with Thor is something only comic book fans will have a chance to enjoy in its full glory.

Thor & She-Hulk

A new relationship between She-Hulk and Thor sparked up in Avengers comics recently. The relationship saw the two powerhouses of the team develop romantic feelings toward each other. However, when She-Hulk left to help Hulk, and chose her cousin over the Avengers, it put a strain on their partnership.

There is almost no chance this will carry over to the MCU. She-Hulk just appeared for the first time in her Disney+ series and Thor is off-planet, fighting aliens with his new adoptive daughter. However, if Thor returned to Earth, it could be an interesting paring.

Cyclops & Emma Frost

When people think of Cyclops in Marvel Comics, his relationship with Jean Grey rises to the top of the conversation. However, over the last decade, Scott was with Emma Frost for at least as long as he was with Jean, and their relationship was far more interesting.

Scott and Emma's relationship played a big part in the Avengers vs. X-Men and was the catalyst of the Inhumans vs. X-Men storyline. Sadly, in the movies, Emma and Scott didn't even cross paths, although her age longevity powers could have made it a possibility.

Iron Man & Hellcat

Iron Man has been in a lot of relationships in comics, but it was really only about Tony Stark and Pepper Potts as a couple in the MCU. His last major relationship was with Wasp, which could never have happened in the MCU since she was much older and was stuck in the Quantum Realm when he was alive.

However, his most recent relationship was a lot more interesting. He dated the street-level hero Hellcat, whose only appearance so far has been in the Jessica Jones Marvel Netflix series. With Tony dead, this won't happen, but there are hopes that Patsy Walker could someday return to the MCU.

Jessica Jones & Scott Lang

Jessica Jones is married to Luke Cage in Marvel Comics and the couple has a daughter. In the Disney+ series, she also had a relationship with Luke, although it never reached the level it did in the comics. However, before Luke, Jessica dated Scott Lang, the Ant-Man.

This relationship saw the two dating, and they seemed to be getting along well. However, Jessica's past trauma made it hard for her to trust anyone, and she ended up cheating on Scott with Luke and ended up pregnant. When she told Scott, he ended things on the spot.

Spider-Man & Black Cat

Peter Parker had three major love interests in the movies. He dated Mary Jane Watson in the original trilogy, Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man movies, and then ended up with MJ in the MCU movies. Never once did he cross paths with Black Cat.

The Black Cat appeared in the Amazing Spider-Man movies in her civilian identity but never showed up in costume. With that said, she dated Spider-Man more than once in the comics and is actually in a relationship with him right now.

Daredevil & Black Widow

Black Widow and Daredevil were a major couple in Marvel Comics, to the point that they co-headlined the Daredevil comic for a time. The comic became Daredevil And The Black Widow for issues #93-108 in the 1970s, as the two were both lovers and colleagues.

The window on this appears to have closed in the MCU, and it will likely remain only in the comics. However, fans know Yelena is a Black Widow, and if Daredevil returns in the MCU, then a version of the pairing is still possible.

Scarlet Witch & Hawkeye

Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye have a respectful relationship in the MCU, but they were lovers in the comics. Still, it was one of the strangest Avengers romances. Wanda had actually killed Clint Barton during the Avengers Disassembled storyline in the early 2000s.

He returned a few years later and they came to a kind of peace. Though their affair wasn't unusual - Hawkeye was very attracted to Wanda from the beginning in Avengers comics in the 60s - she was later revealed to be a Doombot and not the real Wanda Maximoff.

Sam Wilson Captain America & Jane Foster Thor

For the moment, this couple only exists in the comics, but it is very possible in the MCU. When Sam Wilson became Captain America in 2014, he joined the All-New, All-Different Avengers alongside Thor, who was Jane Foster, at the time.

There was an instant spark between them, leading to some kisses and some stunned reactions from other members of the team like Ms. Marvel. Though it was a brief romance, it was one of the more interesting ones of recent years, and it's on the table now that both iterations of Captain America and Thor will be in the MCU.

Rogue & Gambit

Rogue and Gambit have both appeared in Fox X-Men movies, but their often tumultuous relationship has never been depicted on screen. Despite the ups and downs the X-Men have had, they remain one of the most consistent couples in all comics. The two tied the knot in recent years and remain married.

Their romance dates back to the early 90s, making them one of the longest-lasting relationships in Marvel Comics, competing with the likes of X-Men stalwarts Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Kitty Pryde & Colossus

Rogue and Gambit got married at the intended Marvel Comics wedding of Kitty Pryde and Colossus. The two longtime X-Men made it to the altar, but Kitty walked away. Their relationship is key in both their lives, but remains solidly in the comics despite their appearances in the Fox X-Men movies.

It's likely to stay that way when the two make their MCU debuts too, but Kitty could become a romantic interest of Spider-Man as she did in Ultimate Comics in the early 2000s.

Peter Quill & Kitty Pryde

In the MCU, Peter Quill developed a romance with Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but comic fans know that Gamora isn't his only love. Peter has been in love with Kitty Pryde, and the pair almost got married.

In The Trial of Jean Grey storyline from 2014, the two meet, and a romance ensues. In fact, Peter falls so hard for her that he even proposes. She accepts, but unfortunately, the couple breaks off their engagement in Civil War II.

Scarlet Witch & Brother Voodoo

In WandaVision, one of the greatest romances in comics gets its full due. The Vision isn't the only man the Scarlet Witch loves in the comics, though. After she returns to the fold in The Uncanny Avengers, she begins an affair with Brother Voodoo.

The two flirt and eventually become a couple. Brother Voodoo was one of the few Avengers who accepted Wanda back after the cataclysmic events of House Of M, a comic book storyline that inspired WandaVision and left Wanda a pariah among her peers.

Quicksilver & Crystal

Quicksilver appears to be out of the MCU, at least at the moment. The possibility remains of Aaron Taylor-Johnson or after his WandaVision appearance, Evan Peters, returning, which means that his romance with Crystal, one of the Inhumans who dwell on the moon, could still potentially have its own live-action adaptation.

The two fell in love and married during their time together in the Avengers in the early 90s. However, they eventually separated as Quicksilver kept fighting in battles, with and without the Avengers. They had a daughter together, Luna, who also developed superpowers.

Sam Wilson & Misty Knight

Comic fans know Sam Wilson develops a relationship with Misty Knight, one of the Daughters of the Dragon. The two became close after he became Captain America in 2014 when Steve Rogers aged rapidly and handed over the shield to his friend and colleague, Falcon.

The character has already appeared in Iron Fist, played by Simone Missick and if the Netflix suite of Marvel shows is folded into the MCU, it's possible the two could become a couple on screen.

T’Challa & Storm

Storm and Black Panther have been a major couple in Marvel Comics, uniting the Avengers and X-Men through Wakandan royalty. Their eventual screen romance seems likely, but with Chadwick Boseman’s untimely passing in 2020, it's probably something that could happen further in the future.

Still, the World Of Wakanda series on Disney+ could explore their relationship should Storm make her debut ahead of the X-Men proper, especially if it features any flashbacks to the characters' youth when they first met.

Gamora & Tony Stark

Iron Man has passed on in the MCU, closing the window on his comic book romance with Gamora. Still, a What If...? storyline could explore the relationship, which was more of a brief fling. Iron Man spent some time hanging out with the Guardians after their comic reboot in 2013.

It's no surprise at all that Tony Stark would be attracted to such a strong woman like Gamora, but it didn't last long, as Iron Man eventually went back to Earth and his biggest love interest, Pepper Potts.

Carol Danvers & War Machine

A major romance in recent Marvel Comics involves Captain Marvel and War Machine. Carol Danvers and James 'Rhodey' Rhodes are two military vets who have grown very close over the last decade or so. It's been up and down though, with Carol recently splitting up with him and spending time with Doctor Strange.

It's certainly possible that they could pair off in the MCU, but there is an age difference in the screen franchise and Carol Danvers spends the vast majority of her time out in space.

Hawkeye & Mockingbird

In the MCU, Hawkeye is a happily married superhero with two children. Comic fans know Hawkeye's heart belongs to Mockingbird, a longtime Avenger and one of the most important spies in Marvel. But, given where things are with Clint in the movies, it's likely to remain only in the comics.

Mockingbird has appeared on-screen in the MCU era, played by Adrianne Palicki in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Its possible if that show becomes MCU canon through the multiverse or some other means that the two could meet, but a romance seems unlikely. The Hawkeye Disney+ series did hint that Clint's wife once worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., and she could have been "a Mockingbird" at one time, though.

Black Widow & The Winter Soldier

Black Widow and the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, have a connection in the MCU thanks to their unwilling involvement in Russian super-soldier programs. But they also have a romantic connection in the comics as well.

A flashback reveals that Natasha received the Soviet version of the Super Soldier serum in the comics, giving her enhanced strength and stamina. While at the program, she also encounters and gets into a relationship with Bucky while he was still the Winter Soldier.

Black Widow & Hawkeye

In the MCU, Black Widow and Hawkeye are portrayed as the best of friends, having gone through a lot together over the years. In the comics, however, their relationship is not as straightforward. In fact, the teammates were lovers from time to time, especially before Clint met Mockingbird.

Ultimately though, they realized that they are better off as friends and colleagues, with each being the primary reason the other joined the side of the good guys and became Avengers.
