For a group called the Fantastic Four, they've certainly had tens of different members over the superteam's lifetime. Since debuting back in The Fantastic Four #1, the group has featured plenty of heroes besides Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny. So, who's joining the Fantastic Four next? Spider-Man and Wolverine.

Spider-Man and Wolverine have both been members of the Fantastic Four in previous comic iterations.  Wolverine and Spider-Man were both parts of the short-lived new team in Fantastic Four #347, alongside The Hulk and the Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch). Most famously, in The Amazing Spider-Man #657, Johnny gives Peter Parker his spot in the group after he seemingly dies in a fight in the Negative Zone. Spider-Man would accept the position as the team transitions into the Future Foundation.

In a preview for the upcoming Fantastic Four #21 by Dan Slott and Sean Izaakse, Wolverine and Spider-Man are wearing Fantastic Four colors alongside Valeria and Franklin Richards. The cover by Nick Bradshaw is a tie-in for the upcoming Empyre event. In the story, the Fantastic Four are off in space, so it's up to Franklin, Valeria as well as Spider-Man and Wolverine to stop the threat on earth. With the Empyre event arriving in the same month as this issue, you can bet somehow the Skrulls and/or Kree are involved.

Road to Empyre Kree Skrull War Comic

The blue outfits really look good on Spidey and Wolverine - especially the former. The decision to give Spider-Man a straight forward blue mask without much detail looks really darn sharp. Wolverine also looks good in blue - although I'm wondering how he was convinced to put on the outfit.

The upcoming Empyre event is set to be huge. Instead of waring with each other, the Skrull and Kree are set to team up and attack earth - led by Hulkling aka the Dorrek Supreme. Marvel has released a handful of teasers for the event including an interesting Kree/Hulk explainer book featuring the family from Meet the Skrulls, as well as a new look at Hulkling.

The crisis coming to Earth is going to be one of the biggest things Marvel has ever done. Getting Spider-Man and Wolverine on your side isn't a bad start if Valeria and Franklin want to protect the earth as their parents fight off in space. Spider-Man and Wolverine will do whatever it takes - joining the Fantastic Four included - to protect their home planet.
