Marvel Comics has announced the full lineup for the next X-Men relaunch, Destiny of X. In 2019, legendary comic book writer Jonathan Hickman relaunched the X-Men franchise, creating a brand new status quo for the mutants, in which the entire mutant race - hero and villain alike - had gathered on the living island of Krakoa. Hickman is leaving the X-Men books after the current Inferno miniseries, and Marvel is beginning to set the stage for what comes next.

Marvel has already announced an upcoming Wolverine event, The X Lives and Deaths of Wolverine. That will be followed by a new era of X-Men comics, called "Destiny of X." The main theme remains a mystery right now, but teasers have suggested it will explore multiple alternate future timelines. The X-Men books have always dabbled with time travel, so it makes sense for Marvel to give that concept a new twist in preparation for the latest relaunch.

Now, Marvel Comics has officially announced the next wave of X-Men titles, along with a thrilling teaser image. According to Marvel, the next X-Men books are:

  • Immortal X-Men
  • Knights of X
  • Legion of X
  • X-Men Red
  • Marauders, featuring a new creative team
  • X-Men
  • X-Force
  • New Mutants
  • Wolverine
X-Men Destiny of X

Four of those titles are ongoing - New MutantsX-MenWolverine, and X-Force - and there's no indication of changes in the creative teams, although Marvel does promise, "revolutionary status quo changes." The most interesting detail in the promotional image may be the fact that the recently-resurrected Destiny is numbered among the mutants shown. Jonathan Hickman's Inferno plot is exploring the fallout of her resurrection, as all precogs are feared by Xavier and Magneto's secret ally, Moira MacTaggert, who attempted to prevent any precogs being raised from the dead on Krakoa. It's significant, therefore, that another precog is shown in the image; stood next to Destiny is Blindfold, who died shortly before the Hickman era and is clearly back. Marvel may well have accidentally teased the end of Inferno, because they've apparently confirmed Moira MacTaggert loses her secret influence on Krakoa - while Destiny remains a power player.

According to Senior Editor Jordan D. White, all this spins out of the filling of the last two seats on Krakoa's ruling Quiet Council. "With the filling of the two empty council seats, the Reign of X has ended, and it’s time for mutantkind to reach for their destiny," he teased in an official press statement. The two new appointees to the Quiet Council are Destiny and Colossus, although the X-Men are unaware Colossus is a traitor - he's under the psychic control of an enemy. Meanwhile, it's striking that the promotional image for "Destiny of X" features a black background, in deliberate contrast to the verdant greens in the original teases for the Hickman era; that suggests a thematic darkness, perhaps linked to Colossus' treachery, or alternatively a degree of secrecy on Marvel's part - because the scale of changes to the X-Men's world are too vast, and they don't want to give readers a look at them just yet.
