The Avengers and the Fantastic Four will kick off Marvel's Empyre event with two all-new Empyre issues. The one-shots, Empyre #0: Avengers and Empyre #0: Fantastic Four, will lead the way for what's set to be one of Marvel's biggest and wide-ranging events to date.

Marvel has released a series of teasers for the upcoming event throughout the last month. The event is set to see former Young Avenger Hulkling lead longtime enemies, the Krees and Skrulls, into a pending attack against Earth. The Kree and Skrull have always been formidable foes for Earth's mightiest heroes, however, they have never been allies like the Empyre event teases. The trailer for the "earth-shattering" event promised the event will have a significant impact on the future of the Marvel Universe.

The newly announced issues will be written by Al Ewing (The Immortal Hulk) and Dan Slott (The Fantastic Four), and will feature art from House of X and Power of X artists Pepe Larraz and R.B. Silva. The one-shots feature incredible Jim Cheung connecting covers that see both the Avengers and Fantastic Four fight against the pending threat. Ewing described the two issues as a "test of their character" for both superteams.

EMPYRE starts with a bang - the Avengers and the Fantastic Four meeting a threat from two sides, with two different strategies - and these #0 issues will let set readers up to see how they got there,” says Ewing. “As the Avengers meet with old friends, and the Fantastic Four run into some brand new ones, both teams face some stark choices and a test of their character as a team. It's the best way to get inside the heads of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four before the main action begins.

Marvel revealed the Fantastic Four will witness the final conflict of the Kree/Skrull war and meet a hidden Elder of the Universe called Profiteer. Meanwhile, the Avengers will come to the new Green Area of the Moon to take on a "terrible enemy."
