With just a few months until the premiere of Marvel's latest show, a new trailer brings together the heroes of Cloak & Dagger. Since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first arrived on TV and launched the small screen version of the MCU, Marvel has continued to adapt their characters to the format. Netflix has its own street-level corner, and season 2 of Jessica Jones is right around the corner. Meanwhile, Runaways debuted on Hulu last year and teased what a more teen-centric side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks like.
Following the lead of Runaways, Cloak & Dagger will arrive in June and tell the story of two superpowered teens from two different backgrounds learning their abilities and falling in love. The show will be the first Marvel series to land on Freeform, which could provide Disney with a more youth-focused venue to explore new Marvel series. We haven't seen much in the way of marketing since the first trailer arrived last year, but now we have a brand new look at the show and its leads.

Marvel Entertainment released a new trailer for Cloak & Dagger, which tracks the separate but converging paths of Tandy and Tyrone. We see glimpses of their lives, get a look at how they operate in similar situations, and are given a taste of their unique powers. We know some things will be changing from the comics when it comes to adapting the show, but the tone and basic elements of their story look to be intact.
Cloak & Dagger was originally meant to be part of a larger roster of teen superhero shows on its network, but New Warriors won't air on Freeform anymore. Instead, it seems likely that the series will be part of Disney's streaming service when it arrives in 2019. We've heard Disney's digital platform will launch with a Marvel show, and New Warriors seems the likely candidate as its still in production.
Runaways recently landed a second season, and all signs point towards Cloak & Dagger being a unique addition to Marvel's roster. Though Cloak & Dagger will be part of the MCU, it clearly has its own tenor and themes it will be exploring. And as Freeform has had some luck with genre programming aimed at young adults, the network could be the perfect avenue for Marvel to expand their reach and bring more characters from the page to screen. Luckily, we'll soon be able to judge for ourselves when Cloak & Dagger debuts this summer.
Cloak & Dagger premieres Thursday June 7 at 8pm on Freeform.
