Marvel's Cloak and Dagger TV show has been canceled by Freeform after 2 seasons. Launching in 2018, Cloak and Dagger was part of Marvel TV's attempt to expand their reach across multiple networks and platforms. The series was the first Marvel property to land on ABC's sister network Freeform, and starred Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen a.k.a. Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson a.k.a. Cloak.
In the midst of its successful first season, Freeform announced that Cloak and Dagger would be returning for a second season in early 2019. Even though the show avoided tying in with Avengers: Endgame, it did connect itself to Marvel's Netflix universe on multiple occasions. It was recently confirmed that the stars of the series would next crossover with Runaways during the third season on Hulu, which was set up in the season 2 finale.
It has now been revealed by Deadline that this will likely be the last Marvel fans get to see of Tandy and Ty. According to the report, Freeform has canceled Cloak and Dagger after two seasons. The decision comes five months after the season 2 finale, with options on the cast's contracts reportedly expiring this week. Freeform shared the following statement with Deadline about the cancelation:

We are also grateful to our incredible talent Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph for bringing these beloved characters to life, and showrunner Joe Pokaski for his vision. We’d like to thank our partners at Marvel Television for a wonderful two seasons and are we are hopeful that we can find another project together.
In addition to the statement released by Freeform, showrunner Joe Pokaski took to Twitter shortly after the announcement was made to share his thoughts. His fourteen-tweet thread can be read below, in which he thanks his stars, the writers he worked with, the crew he assembled, and much more.
The start of Pokaski's thread and Cloak and Dagger's cancelation is another reminder of the major overhaul that Marvel TV is undergoing at the moment. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has now become the CCO of Marvel with direct authority over Marvel TV. The result of his promotion is expected to see Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb exit the company next month. Loeb was instrumental in growing Marvel TV through the #ItsAllConnected mantra, but the shakeup at Marvel could be part of the larger corporate forces Pokaski mentions that he's angry at.
Even though Cloak and Dagger will not continue for a third season on Freeform, fans will get to see the characters again in season 3 of Runaways this December. While there had been some speculation that Hulu could be a new home for Cloak and Dagger, the larger Marvel TV changes and the timing of this decision make that appear less likely. Now that Cloak and Dagger do not appear to have a future in their current state, it is always possible that they could be rebooted under Feige and Marvel Studios. The movie studio was developing a movie with the divine pairing back in 2005, so it's possible Feige had a role to play in Cloak and Dagger ending because he wants to do them in his own way. That is just speculation at the moment though, so what future - if any - these characters have remains to be seen.
