Superhero films are one of the most successful genres out there these days. And the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes the biggest superhero films of them all. As a result, it's understandable to forget that the MCU stars who portray favorite superheroes and villains also work on multiple other films and TV shows as well. That not only gives them the opportunity to work in other genres, but also meet new people.

Even so, Hollywood has only a limited number of huge stars. So more than once, the actors established in the MCU also met in a different film completely non-related to superheroes. From thriller to romantic comedy, the following actors did it all.

Zodiac (2007)

Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. In David Fincher's Zodiac

The 2007 David Fincher thriller portrays the exhaustive case of the serial killer known simply as Zodiac. The story captures multiple decades since the killer wasn't discovered in the end. And besides its compelling story and atmosphere, the film will be intriguing to MCU fans since it features three MCU actors in main roles - Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey jr., and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)

Jojo talks to his mother as Hitler looks on in Jojo Rabbit

Another history film that sees three MCU actors working together is Jojo Rabbit (2019) - a unique story about a young boy Jojo who greatly admires Hitler, who's also his imaginary friend, at least until he finds a hidden Jewish girl in his home. Scarlett Johansson plays Jojo's mother, Thor: Ragnarok (2017) director and Korg actor Taika Waititi portrayed Hitler, and there's also Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2 (2010), Sam Rockwell.

The Banker (2020)

The Banker 2019 Samuel L Jackson Anthony Mackie

Nick Fury and Falcon didn't interact in the MCU but anyone who wants to see their actors, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie together, now has a chance. Jackson and Mackie star together in the historical drama The Banker. The film focuses on two intelligent men who come up with a plan on how to become successful entrepreneurs - while hiding in the background of their business while using a white man as a front.

The Devil All The Time (2020)

Tom Holland The Devil All The Time

The last two years saw a fair share of films starring the MCU actors in unusual roles. That's also the case of The Devil All the Time. The former Captain America actor, Chris Evans, was originally cast to play Sebastian Stan's role, but due to a scheduling conflict, Stan replaced Evans.

Instead of facing Captain America, Tom Holland's hero faces the Winter Soldier in the film. Stan's and Holland's characters don't interact much in the film, with the exception of the explosive finale.

The Sherlock Holmes Franchise

Sherlock Holmes - Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law

Robert Downey jr. and Jude Law play good friends in the Sherlock Holmes franchise that includes two films at the moment. But if their MCU characters met, it's safe to assume they wouldn't like each other very much. Downey played Iron Man, of course, and Law's character in Captain Marvel (2019) was the main villain Yon-Rogg who originally poses as Carol's boss and friend.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson hide behind a rock from a skull crawler monster

Speaking of Captain Marvel... Another non-MCU film that saw a superhero and villain actor working together is the monster adventure Kong: Skull Island. Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Brie Larson (Carol Danvers) stand side by side in the fight against the giant monkey ruler of Skull Island. What's more, the film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, which makes it a must-see for all MCU fans.

Wind River (2017)

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch have a friendly relationship in the MCU. Hawkeye also serves as a mentor of sorts, possibly a father figure to the young Wanda Maximoff.

That's the reason why many fans were excited when they learned Renner and Olsen would star together in Wind River - a tension-filled intense story that takes place in a snowy Native reserve in Wyoming.

Snowpiercer (2013)

Tilda Swinton Chris Evans Octavia Spencer Snowpiercer

Those fans who mostly know Chris Evans for his optimistic Captain America will be surprised by Evans' performance in the dark postapocalyptic Snowpiercer - that also inspired a subsequent TV show. In a world where everything is frozen and the remaining humans survive in a train there aren't a lot of reasons for joy. Throughout his journey, Evans' hero also meets an enemy named Mason played by Tilda Swinton - who, of course, portrayed the Ancient One.

Playing It Cool (2014)

Playing It Cool

Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are good friends in the MCU. But what might not everyone know is that also played friends in another movie. Playing It Cool focuses on Evans portraying a screenwriter who just got the task to write a romantic comedy. The only problem? He's never been in love before. And no matter how much friend and agent (Mackie) supports him, it looks like the hero won't make it. Spoiler alert - he will, in the end. But it will be a lot of fun.

Chris Evans And Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans in The Nanny Diaries

Finally, whoever likes the friendly dynamic between Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff in the MCU shouldn't miss other films in which Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson appeared together. It's impossible to pick the best one so here are all of them. The Nanny Diaries (2007) sees Johansson working as a nanny and she eventually falls for Evans' hero. The Perfect Score (2004) is about a group of students who decide to steal the SAT results and get the perfect scores. And as bonus, Evans and Johansson also both acted in the TV series Robot Chicken.
