Thanos' First Death - Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Thanos and Thor in Avengers Infinity War

Very early on in the last film of this original and iconic Marvel franchise, the Avengers figure out where Thanos is hiding. They approach him, and suddenly he's dead - thanks to Thor.

All fans certainly had their jaws drop - did they just kill off this infamous villain in the first twenty minutes of the film? No, they didn't, but this twist certainly threw fans for a loop and was certainly one of the most unexpected scenes from the MCU.

"I Am A God!" - The Avengers (2012)

This scene became one of the most unexpected and hilarious scenes from the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Every character had a run-in with Loki, except for the Hulk, right until the final part of the film. Loki, confident as always, shouts "I am a god! You dull creature!", followed by getting smashed to pieces by Hulk.

Every theater everywhere was rolling in laughter, and this iconic scene stands as one of the most comical, mainly because it was totally unexpected by the audience.

The Mandarin AKA Trevor Slattery - Iron Man 3 (2013)

In the third installment of the Iron Man series, fans are introduced to a wicked and powerful villain - the Mandarin. After Tony Stark finally discovers his location and goes to interrogate him, it becomes very clear that the Mandarin is nothing but a front, and he's actually a pretty eccentric and terrified man (played wonderfully by Ben Kingsley).

This twist was equally hilarious as it was shocking, and it's safe to say that most fans didn't expect the Mandarin to be anything but a quirky character. The Iron Man franchise was always keeping fans on their toes.

Hela Breaking Thor's Hammer - Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

When Thor is battling his powerful sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett), fans expected a much more even battle and some success from the God of Thunder. While she was immediately proving herself to be a challenge, fans definitely didn't expect her to catch Thor's hammer and smash it to pieces in the palm of her hand.

That's definitely when the audience knew this wasn't going to be easy for Thor and made for an incredibly interesting plot where Thor lost his hammer to his sister.

Red Skull's Reveal - Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

While huge comic book fans probably saw this coming, new fans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe probably didn't see this one coming. The first Captain America flick was one of the first of the iconic Avengers franchise, and fans certainly didn't expect the villain to be Red Skull.

Quicksilver's Death - Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't known for getting rid of characters, and one of the most predictable parts of superhero flicks is that fans know their favorite hero is likely going to survive every battle. In this Avengers flick, Quicksilver gets trapped in gunfire.

It turns out that Quicksilver will never return, and the death of one of the superheroes certainly threw fans off their game. Lovers of this universe certainly don't expect the good guys to meet their demise, but this scene proved everyone wrong.

Killmonger's Victory - Black Panther (2018)

T'Challa proved he's a pretty incredible and powerful superhero when he first joined the Avengers team. When he finally got his own flick, fans likely expected him to kick butt the entire film. In one of his first fights, to become King, Eric Killmonger takes him on.

To everyone's surprise, T'Challa falls off the waterfall, defeated by Eric Killmonger. Honestly, this scene was worthy of a head scratch, but it certainly stands as one that actually surprised fans.

Captain America & The Hammer - Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)

In the Avengers franchise, everyone was laughing at the scene where the best superheroes of the MCU are trying to lift Thor's hammer off of a table. Of course, no one has any luck - except for Steve Rogers. The best part of this scene is certainly Thor's reaction of shock, which mirrored that of everyone in the audience.

Obviously, all fans now know that Captain America is 100% capable of wielding the hammer, but this scene shook us to our core and gave us all the chills. Lucky for Thor, none of the other Avengers even noticed.

"I'm Still Worthy" - Avengers: Endgame (2019)

This scene in the last flick of this franchise was probably more uplifting and celebratory than unexpected, but it certainly did shock fans by how powerful Thor truly is. No one saw this overweight and lonely hero coming back stronger than ever before.

This incredible scene certainly goes down as the one that had everyone cheering, and will probably remain one of the coolest scenes from the MCU for many years to come.

"I Am Iron Man" - Iron Man (2008)

Tony Stark at a press conference in Iron Man

The final scene in the first Iron Man flick, the birth of all Avengers love, certainly surprised fans and definitely had every viewer in the audience gasping and grinning. When Tony Stark is talking to the press, no one expected (or wanted) Tony to be totally honest about who he is.

This scene still gives us chills, no matter how many times we binge this amazing flick. This set the stage for every Marvel movie to come - and he has been our Iron Man ever since.
