The developers behind Marvel’s Avengers have just unveiled a monstrous new alternate Hulk skin, pulled from the pages of the incredible green Avenger’s more recent comics. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have continued to add new content to Marvel’s Avengers in the couple of years since the game was first released in 2020, from new playable heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers Jane Foster version of Thor to alternate costumes based on the outfits worn by Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their various comic and movie appearances.

This includes the Hulk, as Marvel’s Avengers players can reskin the massive rage-fueled berserker as several different incarnations to smash the forces of AIM - including his gladiatorial Sakaar armor from Thor: Ragnarök and his grey-skinned, pinstripe suit-clad alternate persona of Joe Fixit. Just last month, players could unlock the monochrome, cel-shaded Strange But True skin from a 1989 comic storyline that saw the Emerald Behemoth serve as a mob enforcer in Los Vegas. Crystal Dynamics has no shortage of classic and modern looks to draw from for alternate Marvel’s Avengers character skins, and Hulk is about to get a new unlockable costume based on one of his more modern-day storylines.

This would be the Monster Heart Hulk from 2011’s Incredible Hulks Vol. 1 #632, which was just announced as the next Marvel’s Avengers character skin on the official Marvel’s Avengers Twitter page. This alternate look sees the Hulk’s veins glow with powerful Gamma radiation that is unwittingly unleashed by the villain Armageddon, who makes the mistake of poisoning the Hulk's friends A-Bomb and She-Hulk during a battle in Los Vegas. This angers the Hulk so much that he nearly transforms into his dreaded Worldbreaker persona - a form that, as its name implies, is so powerful and uncontrollable that it threatens the very planet itself. Players will be able to unleash this dangerous new Hulk form in Marvel’s Avengers when the Monster Heart Hulk skin is made available to purchase from the Marketplace starting tomorrow.

While it seems that Marvel’s Avengers fans will continue to receive new costumes for existing heroes for the time being, the future of 2020’s long-troubled superhero title was recently called into question after Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics to Embracer Group earlier this week. As a result of this surprising buyout, the decision to continue producing new content for Marvel’s Avengers will ultimately fall to Disney - and the game’s struggling sales and lukewarm critical reception could be a key factor in that choice. Even before this, a Crystal Dynamics developer stated that the studio has no long-term roadmap for Marvel’s Avengers, instead preferring to focus on smaller quality of life updates and short-term announcements.

Whatever becomes of Marvel’s Avengers in the wake of these new developments, it appears that Crystal Dynamics will continue to add new costumes to the game’s many playable superheroes for at least a short time longer. Tomorrow’s Monster Heart Hulk skin won’t allow players to destroy planets like a Gamma-powered rage monster, but the costume’s glowing appearance is a cool look to sport while smashing through missions as the Incredible Hulk in Marvel’s Avengers.
