ABC releases the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 full trailer. Throughout its first five seasons, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has tackled all manner of villains and storylines. Most recently, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 traveled to the future - and to space. The season ended with the team managing to save Earth from being destroyed by Graviton, but they lost two of their own. The S.H.I.E.L.D. team was unable to save Phil Coulson from his Avengers injury - which had been repaired using Kree technology that was then undone by his deal with Ghost Rider in season 4. In the season 5 finale, Coulson left S.H.I.E.L.D. to live out his days in peace.

But before the team saved the world, Fitz died in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale. However, it had been the Fitz who returned to the present with the team from the future. As a result, there's another Fitz - though one that didn't marry Simmons and didn't learn Deke is their grandson - somewhere in space. Next, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 will pick up a year later and follow the team as they search for Fitz. But they'll also be forced to contend with a new character who's not Phil Coulson, but is played by Clark Gregg. Now, a new trailer teases what's next for the series.

After a previous Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 teaser trailer revealed the return of Gregg following Coulson's death off screen, Marvel has released the full trailer. Watch the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 full trailer below.

Much of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 trailer focuses on the team grieving the loss of Coulson, only to be faced with an enemy that looks just like him. However, this new character, called Sarge, seems to be from another planet and is hell bent on destroying Earth. Of course, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have something to say about that, as they attempt to work through the complicated emotions that stem from battling a villain who looks like their former director. A brief glimpse at Fitz in cryofreeze also hints at another mission for the team in season 6.

Since season 6 is meant to take place a year after the events of season 5, that complicates matters with regard to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. We won't spoil what that means for those who haven't seen Avengers: Endgame yet, but fans who have seen the movie will know when the series takes place in the larger MCU timeline. It opens some interesting doors for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to explore, but it's unclear how the series will reference the events of the movies, and how much the show will choose to ignore in favor of developing their own storylines.

Thankfully, with little more than a week left until Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 premieres, the year-long hiatus is almost at its end. Fans will get to see for themselves what's next for the team when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns next week.
