ABC's Agents of SHIELD became the first Marvel TV series that focused on agents in the secret organization SHIELD, following the immense success of 2012's The Avengers. The series followed Nick Fury's close ally Phil Coulson, who recruited several talented SHIELD agents to handle extraordinary cases.
These SHIELD agents faced many challenges and obstacles, and a major reason for its success was the talented cast. As the characters slowly became a growing and close family, the cast bonded and worked so well together. Now that the show has concluded, they have moved onto new projects.
Jeff Ward
In season 5, the agents unknowingly traveled to 2091 to learn and stop Earth's destruction in the present. At this time, Jeff Ward was the newest member to join the team and portrayed Deke Shaw. Deke was a scavenger enslaved by the Kree and was the grandson of Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. Ward eventually was promoted as a regular and remained in the series until its conclusion.
Since the show, Ward has two projects that are now in post-production. He will first appear in an upcoming thriller, The Descendant. He will also feature in a Netflix horror-thriller series, Brand New Cherry Flavor, focusing on a film director in a middle of a revenge plot.
Natalia Cordova-Buckley
Natalia Cordova-Buckley portrayed one of the most prominent members of SHIELD, Elena Rodriguez, a.k.a. Yo-Yo. Her character was an Inhuman who had super-speed, following her exposure to Terrigenesis.
Cordova-Buckley appeared in several projects like the Oscar-winning film Coco and a 2018 film, Destroyer. Since the series, Cordova-Buckley showed up in three episodes of Coyote. The show focuses on a retired border patrol agent who sees a different world across the borders. Aside from this crime series, she has no other projects lined up.
Henry Simmons
Henry Simmons joined the show in season 3 as he portrayed the skillful and loyal agent, Alphonso Mackenzie, or simply Mack. By the show's conclusion, his character eventually took over the mantle as the new SHIELD director.
Simmons will feature in a sci-fi movie, Synapse, expected to release on May 15 this year. The film follows a dealer who holds many dark secrets, causing several narcotic agents to chase after him. According to Variety, Simmons will also appear in a sports drama, Phenom, but there have been no updates about the project.
Adrianne Palicki
Following the fall of SHIELD, the remaining SHIELD agents had to rebuild the organization from scratch, which meant finding more allies. One of these characters was Bobbi Morse, portrayed by Adrianne Palicki. Palicki remained on the Marvel series until season 3. Although a spin-off was planned called Marvel's Most Wanted, it sadly never got picked up.
Palicki currently stars in Fox's hit series, The Orville. She plays Commander Kelly Grayson, who has a complicated relationship with her ex-husband but they're trying to set their differences aside to succeed in their expeditions. The third season will premiere sometime in 2021 on Hulu. According to Deadline, Palicki also signed to appear in an anthology series, With/In, centered on life during the COVID-19 pandemic. She will appear in the segment "Twenty Questions" alongside Carla Gugino.
Nick Blood
Nick Blood also joined the series in season 2 as Lance Hunter, the ex-husband of Bobbi Morse. Hunter became a close ally to Phil Coulson and his team following the downfall of SHIELD. He also remained on the show until season 3. Although plans for the spin-off series were scrapped, Blood made a guest appearance in season 5.
Blood recently appeared as a guest actor in a crime series, C.B. Strike. He also featured in HBO's successful series, Euphoria. According to Rapid TV News, Blood will star in a drama series, Close to Me. The series will follow a young woman dealing with retrograde amnesia after an accident and trying to piece together her past.
Brett Dalton
Brett Dalton initially started the series as a talented SHIELD agent, Grant Ward. Following the shocking HYDRA twist, Ward was also one of the rogue agents who supported HYDRA and betrayed his entire team. Dalton was a regular in the series until season 3.
Dalton starred in a few movies like The Resurrection of Gavin Stone and Lost in Florence. Recently, he featured in a romantic comedy, Just My Type, as an author who develops a romantic relationship with a pop culture writer. Aside from his latest movies, Dalton has not signed onto new projects as of today.
Elizabeth Henstridge
As one of the few regulars who appeared in all seven seasons, Elizabeth Henstridge was in the series as the brilliant biochemist Jemma Simmons. Alongside her science partner Leo Fitz, she was recruited by Phil Coulson.
Henstridge appeared in a few movies like Reach Me and a horror flick, Wolves at the Door. Currently, Henstridge only has one project in the works, a thriller series called Suspicion. Apple shared a press release, confirming that the series has a star-studded cast of Uma Thurman, Kunal Nayyar, and Noah Emmerich. There are no updates on when the series will premiere as they are currently filming.
Iain De Caestecker
Iain De Caestecker featured as the other half of the brilliant duo, the genius engineer and scientist named Leo Fitz. After being recruited by Phil Coulson, Fitz faced several obstacles and challenges throughout the series, from trying to recover from brain damage to trying to save Earth and the team from dangers in outer space.
De Caestecker starred in a 2018 horror film, Overlord, with Wyatt Russell. He also appeared in two miniseries, Us and Roadkill. However, De Caestecker is not currently involved with new projects, but surely something will come up soon.
Chloe Bennet
For Chloe Bennet, Agents of SHIELD was her breakthrough project, portraying a computer hacker then-named Skye, now Daisy Johnson. Furthermore, Daisy was an Inhuman with seismic powers, earning the nickname Quake, and became quite a formidable SHIELD member.
Bennett appeared in movies like the 2020 remake of Valley Girl and voiced characters in movies like Abominable. Although Bennet has not been too busy since the show ended, she recently signed to appear in a live-action Powerpuff series based on the animated show from Cartoon Network. Starring with Yara Perrault and Dove Cameron, Bennett will be portraying Blossom.
Ming-Na Wen
Ming-Na Wen could not be the better fit for butt-kicking agent Melinda May, a close ally to Agent Coulson. Today, the Disney legend is probably the busiest actor since the show's conclusion. Last year, Wen made a cameo in the 2020 live-action remake of Mulan as she also voiced the character in the 1998 animated film.
Her most recent project is The Mandalorian as Fennec Shand, a mercenary with a bounty on her head. Following the season 2 finale, she will become a regular cast member for the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett and will provide voice acting in Star Wars: The Bad Batch. She will also voice Fong Wing in an animated series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
Clark Gregg
The heart and soul of the show was none other than Phil Coulson, portrayed by Clark Gregg. Coulson was revived from Project TAHITI after Loki killed him in The Avengers. Eventually, he began recruiting for his new team that has since become a family. Gregg reprised his role in the 2019 superhero film Captain Marvel.
Gregg has quite a lineup of projects since his days as Phil Coulson in Agents of SHIELD. The leading actor recently appeared in the Netflix movie, Moxie, where a group of female students tries to stand up against sexism at their high school. He also featured in a sci-fi series, Tomorrow's Monsters, where Gregg portrays Walter Fuller. However, his most exciting project is the upcoming drama, Being the Ricardos, centered on the life of Hollywood's former super couple, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
