Crystal Dynamics has officially revealed Marvel's Avengers' first skin inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, belonging to Black Widow, after a number of skins were recently leaked. The role-playing action game inspired by the Marvel comics and released last year. The game was met with criticism for its lack of polish and content, but some praise was aimed at the title's combat mechanics.

One particular feature that Marvel's Avengers players have frequently requested is cosmetic items inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Developer Crystal Dynamics recently announced that MCU skins are coming to the game, but fans were left unimpressed by the fact that these skins can only be bought through microtransactions rather than earned through some in-game accomplishment. Marvel's Avengers' first MCU skins will be added during an upcoming event, Red Room Takeover, which will arrive in the spring. However, a glitch recently discovered by players gave an early look at these cosmetic items, with outfits inspired by 2019's Avengers: Endgame being revealed for several characters such as Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, and Hawkeye.

After the recent leak, Marvel's Avengers has released the first official look at a Marvel Cinematic Universe skin in Marvel's Avengers. The cosmetic item allows the game's version of super-spy Black Widow to dress up in the suit worn by Scarlett Johansson's version of the hero in Avengers: Endgame. However, comments on the developer's Twitter post reveal that many fans are unhappy with the skin because it fails to change the character's hair into the memorable red and blonde ponytail seen in the film. Black Widow's Endgame skin will be added to the game's Marketplace on May 6.

Marvel's Avengers has been criticized by both comic book fans and gamers, with many unflattering comparisons being made to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series and Insomniac's recent Spider-Man titles. Many feel that the game's narrative is too safe and familiar, failing to take risks and change the status quo like the previously-mentioned series were willing to do. The live-service change of Marvel's Avengers also hurts its capacity for storytelling, especially when compared to the exclusive single-player Arkham and Spider-Man games.

While Marvel's Avengers does have redeeming qualities, such as a roster of unique heroes that play in very distinct ways, Crystal Dynamics has dropped the ball repeatedly during development. MCU suits were one of the most often-requested features by players, so it is essential that the game really nails these cosmetics. While Black Widow's Endgame suit appears to be an almost flawless recreation of Scarlett Johansson's attire, the absence of her distinct hairstyle will leave many fans unsatisfied.
