After a tense twelfth season of Married at First Sight, Virginia Coombs and Jake Harder explicitly drudge through the drama and unhealthy relationships on their season. Both having separated from their paired spouse on the series, there was plenty left unsaid after many of the couples on the series endured toxic, unreconciled marriages, uncharacteristic for the series. From potential affairs to blown-out fights on camera, MAFS entertained several storylines that were borderline abusive and difficult to watch on the smalls screen.

With a drastic age gap and divergent values, Erik Lake and Virginia Coombs’ marriage screamed trouble from the beginning. Adding drunken arguments and indecision on living arrangements after filming also added to the increasing tension between the two. And Jake Harder and Haley Harris’ marriage on MAFS was no better, with Haley being outspoken about her dissatisfaction with Jake, nearly from first sight. Jake’s insecurities and introverted nature didn’t help the already-suffering relationship. And as the couples bonded with their spouses and the other couples, even more drama broke out throughout the season, leading to a fiery, chaotic season finale.

Despite Jake and Virginia behaving nicely toward each other on-air, Reality TV World shed light on the animosity between the two cast members. Specifically, both had very different perspectives on the relationship between Jake and Haley. Speaking his truth about his marriage on Instagram Live, Jake candidly explored the pain and hurt he felt after being married to Haley on Married at First Sight. But in what could have been an engaging, insightful look into the series, Jake’s perspective turned into an explosive interaction between Jake and Virginia. While Jake remained collected (for the most part) throughout the conversation, Virginia used a number of hurtful comments toward Jake, using profanity, bullying, and even potentially “blackmailing” Jake, as he put it. Virginia did not hold back on her negative view of Jake, claiming that his conversations with Haley were “the creepiest s**t any of us had ever heard” and circling back to asking if “she didn’t like you or your d**k?” Jake was less vicious in his approach, deescalating the anger within the live video: “The way she was typing, it didn't seem like she was in a good place to be actually discussing anything.” A passing reference to the suspicion that Virginia had a drinking problem, Jake took a shot at this season-long point of tension. He concluded by asking for an end to the drama and a chance to explore his “s****y experience.”

As fans eagerly await season 13 of Married at First Sight, the couples of season 12 are still reeling from the drama, the arguments, and one of the highest rates of divorce on the series, Briana Myles and Vincent Morales being the lone survivors. While the conversation between Jake and Virginia ended with both parties questioning the intentions of the others, fans are certain to await clarity in the near future and possible appearances in the upcoming thirteenth season of MAFS

Both surprising and uncalled for, Virginia escalated an already tense situation by using crass and unfounded claims to defame Jake in his attempt to be honest. But loyal fans of the series won’t be surprised by Virginia’s comments, due to her constant involvement in other relationships, spending more time meddling in other marriages, and ultimately losing out on love within her own. Without new information and a new feud formed, Married at First Sight season 12 ended on a bitter, unresolved note.
