Nothing communicates the end of a marriage quicker than refusing to sleep in the same bed with your bride on your wedding night...which is exactly what Luke Cuccurullo of Married At First Sight did to his new wife, Kate Sisk. At least, that's what viewers were led to believe. While they did end up doing the deed later that evening, Luke coerced Kate into keeping that fact, as well as their entire life as a married couple, secret.
The union between Kate and Luke in season 8 of MAFS seemed like trouble from the start. By the end of Decision Day, his gaslighting of Kate only worsened over the short course of their marriage. Amid Kate’s claim that he abandoned her on their one-month anniversary, and Luke’s accusations that Kate had a drinking issue – even though he purchased wine for her to drink, only to complain about it – no one should be too surprised the marriage ended badly. And while she tried to be a good sport about her deteriorating marital situation, she ultimately realized she was all by her lonesome in a woefully bad marriage. For Luke’s part, it simply appeared as if he just wasn’t physically attracted to his wife. In addition to stating how repulsed he was by her, Luke also said Kate made him feel dead inside. Not exactly the love language a new bride wants to her from her husband. Perhaps his level of harshness and the stinging words he used to express his displeasure with Kate’s sex appeal, led her to question his sexuality. During the reunion episode, Kate expressed concerns that her new husband might be gay. Though he denied it, Kate came back at him with some of the provocative items he’s wrote on his Facebook page—namely, his interest in both women and men. Luke said his comments were written in jest, but Kate countered and said she didn’t believe it, because Luke has a lot of gay friends. Moreover, Kate said she found it puzzling that Luke posted comments like that on Facebook in the first place.
According to Soap Dirt, after the couple ended their nuptials, Kate threw herself into her brand of sleepwear and women’s lingerie business, named Hidden Intimates. Besides showing up on a podcast with Jamie Otis, another MAFS cast member and putting out a breakup song after she and Luke broke up, she spent most of her free time traveling. In 2019, she traveled to Switzerland. Earlier this year, Kate revealed a new photo that appeared to be taken last spring, just before COVID-19 started affecting the country. While she confessed that she hardly gets dolled up, she posted a makeover photo of herself. Although there’s no recent serious dating news to report about Kate, she did have a brief relationship post-Luke breakup. Reality TV World reported that Kate said the mystery man is a teacher and a writer, as well as handsome and authentic. She also confessed she and the teacher were not rushing the relationship. Unfortunately, after Kate’s appearance on the MAFS reunion show, the budding relationship came to a screeching halt.
Traveling, attending a lot of weddings, and podcasting were also the new post-breakup outlets for Luke. His Cuccurullo Conversations is up and running. He also traveled around the country and is keeping fit through marathons and other athletic events. Luke also said he regrets not being able to write the narrative of his life while on the show. He said he was a man of few words on the show, because he didn’t want to upset the apple cart and felt he needed to go with the flow of what production wanted. However, he said the most important lesson he learned during his time on MAFS was not to stay in situations that didn’t make him happy. Luke also confessed to wanting to get remarried and have children within five years. He also said his speed-dating company suffered from his time on the show and caused the company to shut down. Being viewed as the villain on MAFS has cost him, too. He shared that the backlash he experienced being cast in a bad light has taken its toll. He added that there are vindictive message boards of “moms” who take pleasure in seeking people out and unearthing everything about them in order to weaponize their pasts against them. He even called out viewers who contacted his place of work, only to leave nasty messages with his secretary telling her to terminate his employment.
In early August, there were signs that Luke’s dating life was turning around. But alas, it was a false signal. It seemed the object of his alleged affection was fellow Married At First Sight alum, Amber Bowles. She quickly doused water on that perception because she has a boyfriend, who she went Instagram official with in March. But tongues started wagging after a photo of the two hanging out turned up, followed later by Amber’s recent appearance on Luke’s podcast. The love connection rumor triggered MAFS fans and caused them to wonder about Amber’s appetite for bad guys, given her season 9 marriage to Matt Gwynne, who fans later discovered was the villain in her season. Amber used her Instagram to clear up fans’ confusion, and underscored that she and Luke are just really good friends. He apparently reached out to her as a sign of support. Plus, when he was traveling around the country, he stopped by to visit Amber at her home in North Carolina. The rumor mill started churning when Luke posted a photo with Amber when they went river rafting. But the trip was not as special as it appeared to be to outsiders. The river rafting trip was originally Amber’s gift to Matt. She also said people should give Luke a chance and suggested they should listen to his podcast show. Time will tell if Luke gained any lessons in the kindness needed to nurture a thriving and successful marriage. And hopefully, Kate doesn’t let the cruelty of Luke’s behavior during their marriage deter her from finding true and lasting happiness in a solid and loving marriage.
