Austin Hurd and Jessica Studer have the distinction of being one of the 12 couples in all of Married at First Sight’s history to stay together. On season 10 of the show, they were matched for their quirkiness and hit it off right away. The drama-free couple was a fan-favorite and people want to know what the nerdy couple, who are the first ones to call themselves weirdos, is up to now.
Out of the five couples married on season 10, only two stayed together on decision day and only Jessica and Austin are still together today. Despite being a seemingly ideal match, Jessica has fought against labeling them a “perfect couple.” She shared her thoughts about marriage on Instagram, explaining that it takes hard work and that she and Austin are “learning together and trying to have fun at it.” It’s an important message in a world of scripted reality shows and social media, both of which show a highly controlled narrative and often don’t reflect the truth of what’s actually happening in the real world.
Jessica and Austin are active on social media, letting fans keep abreast of what they are up to since the show. They were tempted to attempt to buy their dream home, but realized it was out of their current budget. Rather than go deep into debt, they decided to start small and wait for a better moment to go for their perfect home. Austin works as a network engineer. Jessica works as a nurse and received a promotion that also came with the responsibility of caring for COVID-19 patients during 2020.
They do want to start a family someday. Many of the other couples who have stayed together after their time on the show have gone on to have children. In the meantime, Austin and Jessica have adopted a puppy together, and named him Rex. Unfortunately, shortly after they adopted Rex, they got the sad news that the dog suffers from Addison’s disease. Thankfully, while not curable, the disease is highly treatable. They are getting Rex care and have put him on a special diet.
After over a year, Jessica and Austin seem to still be going strong and in this marriage for the long run. While there are no guarantees, some couples have managed to stay married long-term, such as season 1’s Jamie and Doug. Jessica and Austin were the bright spot on an otherwise disastrous season of Married at First Sight. They have shown that they aren’t afraid of hard work and are willing to admit that they have their ups and downs. Just to make their family even sweeter, Jessica changed her last name to Hurd, and now she calls herself, her husband, and her dog, the Hurd Herd.
