The Lifetime hit reality TV show Married At First Sight has seen its fair share of failed marriages. There have been many divorces that have plagued the show. Fans are surprised that participants still willingly apply for MAFS in light of its incredibly low success rate. However, individuals who have struggled to find love the regular way may feel like the show offers them a chance, even if the odds of finding true love are slim. Statistics show that the matches made on Married At First Sight are more likely to end up divorced than happily married. That is the reality of the situation.
Participants hoping to end up like Woody and Amani Randall, who are still together in 2021, are more likely to end up divorced like Davina and Sean from season 2. A cast member may go in thinking that an expert will magically find someone who checks everything off their list, but that outcome is unlikely. It sometimes seems like the experts love pairing people based on the principle that opposites attract. An example is Henry Rodriguez and Christina Crochet from season 10, who also ended up getting divorced.
Monet Bell & Vaughn Copeland (Season 1)
Monet and Vaughn were not destined to work. They argued over every little thing in their marriage. It didn't help that Vaughn felt Monet wasn’t being her true self throughout the process. It was no surprise when the pair chose to go their separate way on decision day. Monet said that they were in “two different places in their lives.”
Cortney Hendrix & Jason Carrion (Season 1)
Cortney and Jason were married for nearly five years before they called it quits. They were a favorite couple from the franchise. Fans found their divorce shocking. During their time on the show, they seemed perfect. Their relationship was natural, and they genuinely liked each other. However, when they appeared on the spin-off Married At First Sight: Happily Ever After, it was apparent that their work schedules caused tension in their marriage. The pair decided to divorce, and both are now remarried to wonderful people.
Davina Kullar & Sean Varricchio (Season 2)
These two were initially attracted to each other on their wedding day. However, their decision to live apart during the process was probably the reason why their marriage fell apart. On decision day, the experts asked if they put their all into the process, and they answered no. Despite their marriage not working out on the show, Davina and Sean both married other people after their divorce, and both are parents.
Jaclyn Methuen & Ryan Ranellone (Season 2)
Although this couple chose to stay together at the end of the season, they soon filed for divorce. Ryan admitted during the reunion episode that he had not put much effort into their marriage once the cameras stopped rolling. Jaclyn may not have gotten the marriage she wanted but she did get two great friends. She became close to Davina and Jessica from her Married At First Sight season.
Jessica Castro & Ryan DeNino (Season 2)
Jessica and Ryan had one of the most explosive marriages on the show. Throughout the process, they seemed like they would make things work, and they even chose to stay together on decision day. However, after the cameras stopped rolling, Jessica found out that MAFS "worst husband" Ryan cheated on her multiple times throughout their marriage. That was not the end of the drama, as Jessica filed a restraining order after he allegedly threatened to kill her. Now, Jessica has moved on and is the mother of a baby girl.
Vanessa Nelson & Tres Russell (Season 3)
Vanessa and Tres had the potential to be a great couple and viewers were sure they would go the distance. Unfortunately, despite their chemistry, Tres said that his feelings faded over time. During the reunion special, he stated, "I stayed committed to the marriage and us trying to make it work.” Tres even kept in contact with producers, experts, and his family to get “assistance.” However, their marriage fell apart.
David Norton & Ashley Doherty (Season 3)
This was an awkward decision day, as David chose to stay married and Ashley wanted to get a divorce. Throughout the season, the couple struggled, so Ashley choosing divorce was not a surprise to anyone except David. After the show, it was revealed that David had a criminal record and Ashley was never notified. Ashley said that there were times when David slammed the door and got in her face, but that was never shown on the show.
Sam Role & Neil Bowlus (Season 4)
Sam and Neil were doomed from the start. Neil was not what Sam envisioned in a husband, as he wasn’t a “manly man,” and Sam was rude to Neil every step of the way. Sam was derogatory towards Neil and it was evident that things were not going to work. At the end of the season, however, Sam was distraught when Neil chose to divorce her. These scenarios are why fans have lost trust in the MAFS experts. The two remain friends following the show and they have posted a few pictures together on social media.
Derek Schwartz & Heather Seidel (Season 4)
Derek and Heather hold the record for the fastest break-up in Married At First Sight history. During their honeymoon, the pair got into multiple arguments, After ten days, they decided to end their marriage. Derek accused Heather of being an alcoholic. Heather felt uncomfortable around Derek.
Lillian Vilchez & Tom Wilson (Season 4)
This season 4 couple chose to remain together after decision day. However, they decided to divorce after a year together. In a joint statement to US Weekly, they stated that “sometimes God has other plans.” They remain friends.
Sonia Granados & Nick Pendergast (Season 4)
Sonia and Nick chose to stay married on decision day, but like Lillian and Tom, they decided to divorce after less than a year together. However, their split was not as amicable. Sonia posted a subtweet insinuating that Nick and his new girlfriend (After Buzz TV host Heather Yerrid) were having an affair before she divorced him.
Nate Duhon & Sheila Downs (Season 5)
These two were fighting from their honeymoon all the way through to decision day, where they surprisingly chose to stay married to one another. Sheila and Nate divorced after a year, and Sheila accused Nate of cheating throughout their marriage. However, Nate denied those claims.
Cody Knapek & Danielle DeGroot (Season 5)
Throughout their season, these two struggled to find a sweet spot in their marriage. They were always out of step with one another. Although they both tried to make the marriage work, there wasn't enough chemistry. They chose to stay together on decision day but went their separate ways after a year of marriage.
Molly Duff & Jonathan Francetic (Season 6)
Lack of chemistry and a feeling of being disconnected were two reasons why Molly and Jonathan’s marriage broke down. They got into bad arguments. Jonathan recorded one of them to show the experts how Molly was talking to him when the cameras were not around. They ended up divorcing. Jonathan later got engaged to Dr. Jessica Griffith, who eventually stepped down from her role on the show.
Ryan Buckley & Jaclyn Schwartzberg (Season 6)
This season 6 couple faced a lot of difficulty during their time on the show. However, they decided to stay together despite their squabbles and disagreements. They divorced ten months later, with Jaclyn saying they were both “happier and healthier.”
Mia Bally & Tristan Thompson (Season 7)
Drama, stalking charges, and jealousy were the reasons why this couple did not make it. Mia was arrested at the airport as she and Tristan were going on their honeymoon. However, they still chose to stay together on decision day. Mia and Tristan later revealed on the reunion that they had parted ways. They did argue about who filed for the divorce. After season 7, Mia has focused on clearing her name.
Dave Flaherty & Amber Martorana (Season 7)
Amber had previously dated a friend of Dave’s, which did not help their already shaky marriage. They tried to make things work but chose to divorce.
Will Guess & Jasmine McGriff (Season 8)
This situation was rather sad, as Jasmine wanted to stay married to Will, but he could not see a future between them. They announced their divorce during the reunion.
Luke Cuccurullo & Kate Sisk (Season 8)
Most fans of the show will agree that Luke might be one of the worst husbands to ever appear on Married At First Sight. From the beginning of their marriage, he made it clear that he was not attracted to Kate, yet they were still intimate. He told Kate she “repulsed” him and felt “dead inside” when they kissed. Suffice it to say they chose to get divorced.
Matt Gwynne & Amber Bowles (Season 9)
Amber’s issues with abandonment were triggered multiple times during her marriage to Matt, who had told her not to change for him. The former professional basketball player would come home late constantly. When he went out, he wouldn't tell her where he was going. Amber suspected that he was cheating on her, which he admitted to at the reunion special. The two got divorced, and Amber said the experience helped her gain strength.
Brandon Reid & Taylor Dunklin (Season 10)
Brandon and Taylor were a destructive pair. These two were at each other’s throats from the moment they said, “I do.” Pair this issue with Brandon’s dislike of the production crew, which hindered his marriage, and time was ticking on their union. The pair divorced but Brandon sought an annulment. He found out he was not meant to be matched with Taylor in the first place. The judge granted the annulment.
Katie Conrad & Derek Sherman (Season 10)
Katie earned the title of one of the worst wives during the season. Fans didn’t really take to her, especially when she admitted to still having feelings for her ex. Although they chose to stay together on decision day, Derek revealed during the reunion that Katie had cheated on him with her ex. She denied it. Now, Katie is engaged to a new man and appears to be happy.
Mindy Shiben & Zach Justice (Season 10)
Mindy and Zach's process was reminiscent of Chris Williams and Paige Banks' from season 12. Mindy and Zach never truly became a typical married couple because Zach never moved into their apartment. He never gave himself to the process because he was not attracted to Mindy. The line was officially drawn when Mindy found out that Zach had been flirting with one of her friends.
Meka Jones & Michael Watson (Season 10)
Taylor and Brandon were not the only ones who were granted an annulment amongst the season 10 couples, Meka and Michael were also given one. These two struggled with Michael's inability to tell the truth, and Meka’s impatience. They chose to divorce, and since then, Michael has issued an apology to Meka for his dishonesty during their time together. Meka has since racked up sizable net worth, so she's doing fine.
Christina Crochet & Henry Rodriguez (Season 11)
Christina and Henry were polar opposites. They should never have been matched. Towards the end of the process, they threw accusations at each other, with Henry accusing Christina of being homeless. Christina questioned Henry’s sexuality. When they chose divorce on decision day, it came as no surprise.
Olivia Cornu & Brett Lindsay (Season 11)
These two struggled during their stint on Married At First Sight season 11. Olivia and Brett butted heads constantly, especially when it came to Olivia’s dream of traveling with her partner. Brett saw it as a waste of money, while Olivia felt it was an essential part of a relationship. Brett left her, and when he went, he left their apartment empty. Even the food has been taken.
