Summary

  • Matt's treatment of Amber throughout the season was appalling. He refused to change for her and their marriage didn't last.
  • Amber found happiness after the show and got engaged to a doctor named Kevin.
  • Amber is better off without Matt and has a hopeful future ahead with Kevin.

Matt Gwynne and Amber Bowles’ Married At First Sight season 9 relationship was one of the worst in the show's history, and it's time to talk about where they are after the show. Matt’s treatment of Amber was appalling throughout the season. He told her not to change for him, and he would not change for her. Although their marriage seemed promising on their wedding day, the good times didn't last long on one of the best reality TV shows. Amber was open to working on their issues, but Matt wasn’t. While the show is consistently unsuccessful, MAFS season 18 will return.

As Amber began the MAFS process, she was open about her abandonment issues. She told the experts about her past, and it was clear that Amber had baggage she hadn't dealt with. They paired Amber with a former basketball player who came home late regularly and cheated on her. When Amber finally confronted Matt, he was calm about her accusations. Overall, the two didn't seem like the best match. What are they up to after their disastrous MAFS experience?

Amber Bowles Got Engaged Post-MAFS

Happily, Amber started dating a doctor, Kevin, after MAFS season 9. In November 2023, Amber and Kevin got engaged, garnering excitement from fellow MAFS stars. "My girl my girl my girl! I love this for you and have told you this from the beginning that everything happens how it’s suppose to happen and I am so blessed to see this in action and am so happy for you both," commented Iris Caldwell, followed by a purple heart emoji, "Love ya girl..since day 1." Noi Phommasak and Jamie Otis also expressed their excitement for the former reality TV star.

Amber Bowles Deserved Happiness After Matt Gwynne

Matt, who has a job as a corporate analyst, deserved to be on the worst MAFS husbands list. Matt joins other men like Luke from MAFS season 8, who gaslit and manipulated Kate for the duration of their marriage. Michael Watson from Married At First Sight season 8 also lied to his wife, Meka Jones, throughout their marriage. Matt should have broken up with Meka when he realized it wasn’t working instead of dragging it out, which he admitted during the reunion special. Amber is undoubtedly better off without Matt.

Although Amber's hopes for the Married at First Sight process weren't what she hoped for, she did learn a lot from the experience. Countless participants have found happiness after the cameras stopped rolling, such as Jason Carrion and Cortney Hendrix, who found love after their divorce. Even though Amber has yet to find her person, she's not stuck with Matt. Hopefully, she and Kevin have a happy future ahead of them.
