Summary

  • Johnny and Bao's marriage was the most talked-about in MAFS season 13, full of ups and downs due to their history together.
  • Johnny faced criticism for being overly critical of Bao during their brief marriage, leading to their eventual rejection on Decision Day.
  • Despite the controversy, Johnny has found happiness outside of the show, forming friendships with other cast members and getting engaged to Kayla.

Johnny Lam had a controversial experience in Married At First Sight season 13, but since his heartbreaking rejection on Decision Day, the former husband has steered clear of drama. Johnny's contentious relationship with Bao Hoang made the IT project manager one of the least popular cast members from one of the best reality TV shows. Still, Johnny hasn't succumbed to everyone's perception of him. As fans await Married At First Sight season 18, it's time to revisit Johnny from MAFS season 13.

Married At First Sight's Johnny and Bao's marriage was the most discussed union of that season because the pair's brief time together was full of ups and downs. Johnny and Bao's history is the main facet of their relationship that sets them apart from the rest of the husbands and wives from MAFS. Although MAFS's concept relies on two strangers jumping head-first into a marriage, Johnny and Bao knew each other before their wedding day. The pair had interacted during college, but their familiarity was a weakness. Johnny was criticized for being overly critical of Bao, for which he paid the price.

During the weeks of their marriage, Johnny appeared to be disinterested and even annoyed by Bao. From confessing he wished he was matched with anyone other than Bao to mocking his ex-wife's insecurities, Johnny became one of MAFS's greatest antagonists. Surprisingly, Johnny hoped he could keep working on his relationship with Bao after MAFS season 13 wrapped.

On a dramatic Decision Day, Johnny is shut down when Bao doesn't reciprocate Johnny's desire to stay married. Fortunately, Johnny's fellow cast members had his back in the weeks following his MAFS rejection. While Bao started spending more time with her family, Johnny found comfort in the friendships he formed on the show.

Johnny Is Engaged After Married At First Sight

While Johnny continued his MAFS friendships, rumors flew that he was venturing on a romantic journey with another of his MAFS season 13 cast members, Myrla. Like Johnny and Bao, Myrla and her match, Gil, didn't get along throughout their time on the show. Myrla and Gil opted to stay together on Decision Day but swiftly got divorced after and went their separate ways. Johnny and Myrla shut down the rumors and ultimately stayed friends as Johnny found love again with Kayla Fischer, who has been appearing in his photos since September 2022. In January 2024, Johnny and Kayla got engaged.

Johnny's expedition in MAFS left him wifeless and unpopular. Fortunately, Johnny's been enjoying the silver linings of his mostly fruitless experimental marriage journey. From forging friendships with Michaela, Rachel, and Myrla to finding new love outside of TV, Johnny's been finding happiness since Married At First Sight season 13's compelling conclusion and will enjoy a happy marriage with Kayla.
