Mark Ruffalo sums up his 2020 using only Hulk photos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest online trend started by Reese Witherspoon has resulted in countless celebrities and the rest of the public depicting how their year has been going thus far using their images. For Ruffalo, however, he opted to use snaps of his MCU characters instead.

To say that 2020 has been rough for humanity would be an understatement. The year began with rampant Australian fires, and a couple of months later, the coronavirus pandemic spread all over the world - something that a lot of countries are still grappling with right now. In the United States, other national issues like rampant racism and police brutality, especially against People of Color have also become pressing issues. With a lot of things happening all at once, Ruffalo's take on Witherspoon's social media challenge makes a lot of sense.

Taking it to his official Instagram account, the MCU star used various images of Bruce Banner and Hulk for his version of the online trend. Snaps of his character from various Marvel movies depicting different emotions that supposedly capture his feelings for the specific month shows fans that things seem to get worse - at least from Ruffalo's perspective. Check out the image below:

Perhaps a lot of people can relate to how Ruffalo summed up his year so far, especially with his choice of image for March when the coronavirus pandemic began to wreak havoc in the United States, which is a worried Banner at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. The actor remained worried in April and May (using a Thor: Ragnarok image instead), while still minding the ongoing global health crisis. Things started to change, however, by June, presumably in reference to the Black Lives Matter movement that was sparked by the unnecessary death of George Floyd at the hands of the police at the end of May. While it's still the first week of August, Ruffalo appears to maintaining that sense of outrage, pushing for systemic change to address this pressing issue at least until September (or until something's done with it).

Many Marvel Cinematic Universe actors are socially involved and vocal. Chris Evans recently launched an initiative to bridge the gap between elected officials and the public; Anthony Mackie has always been open about how important representation is in front of and behind the cameras. In fact, Mackie even criticized Marvel Studios itself for their lack of awareness with regard to diversifying their pool of talent. Brie Larson, on the other hand, is a gender equality activist, as well as a champion for assault survivors. Ruffalo, however, is arguably the most active in various social causes including pushing for a more aggressive plan to combat climate change, as well as an advocate for Medicare For All to name a few. Given this, no wonder he's had a very emotional 2020.
