Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo trolled fans on Instagram by promising a spoiler video that turned out to be an April Fools' Day prank. With the next chapter in the "Infinity Saga" set to hit screens later this month, some fans are hungrier than ever for clues as to how the story will ultimately play out. Of course, many fans don't want to know anything about what's going to happen in the film before they see it, and are obsessive about avoiding spoilers at all costs.
Marvel Studios is of course doing all it can to keep secrets from Endgame off the internet, and that includes making sure its actors remain tight-lipped about the movie's plot as they go on their promotional rounds. But despite the studios' best efforts, sometimes actors can't help but let loose with spoilers. Over the years, Hulk star Mark Ruffalo has been one of the worst offenders when it comes to accidentally revealing secrets. Once, Ruffalo even spoiled the end of Infinity War, though no one realized it until after the movie was released.
Playing off his image as a man who can't help but reveal spoilers, Mark Ruffalo took to Instagram on April Fools' Day to have a little fun with fans. In his video post, Ruffalo promised a spoiler for Endgame was on the way. But when fans clicked to play the video, there was only a loading screen followed by an April Fools' message. See the prank clip below:
This of course isn't the first time Ruffalo has had a little fun with his reputation as a spoiler. Last October, Ruffalo played with fans during a talk show appearance, appearing to give away the real title of Endgame long before it was set to be announced (his supposed spoiler was bleeped out to protect the secret). Ruffalo is so loose lipped when it comes to such revelations he's even gotten grief from his co-stars, including War Machine actor Don Cheadle.
Thankfully for Ruffalo, this time he didn't reveal an actual spoiler, but only pretended to as a way of playing an April Fools' Day prank on his fans. Those same fans won't have to wait very much longer to find out what actually happens in Avengers: Endgame when the universe's remaining heroes band together for the final battle against Thanos. Hopefully, Ruffalo and his co-stars can hold onto their secrets for a few more weeks and avoid become embroiled in a real spoiler controversy that puts a damper on the movie's highly anticipated release.
