Mark Hamill has revealed that he pulled triple-duty on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, not only playing Luke Skywalker and voicing Dobbu Scay but also providing the motion-capture for the latter. The film served as the second part of a new trilogy devised by Disney after their purchase of Lucasfilm. While the first film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, managed to please the majority of fans with its blend of nostalgia and new characters, The Last Jedi proved highly divisive. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics and many fans, the film garnered a significant amount of backlash from others. Criticism largely revolved around Episode 8's depiction of Luke Skywalker and what fans perceive to be a pointless side quest to Canto Bight.

Seeking assistance from an acquaintance of Maz Kanata, both Finn and Rose venture to the casino planet. There, they engage in a minor act of rebellion against the rich and powerful that frequent the establishments. While the mission does ultimately connect back to the main story threads, many fans deemed it as little more than filler and a distraction from the more interesting elements of the film. Whatever side of the fence fans' sit on, however, one aspect of the sequence that proved mostly positive was BB-8's humorous encounter with an inebriated gambler called Dobby Scay, who was later seen gleefully hording the wealth as chaos reigned around him. The credits later revealed that Hamill himself had played the role.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Hamill responded to a fan's question regarding the Dobbu Scay character and the scenes on Canto Bight. Stating that they couldn't help but laugh when they watched the admittedly humorous moment, a fan named Kirin was curious whether the actor had worn a motion suit for the scene? Hamill confirmed that he had indeed. Noting the common (and widely misreported) misconception that he only provided the voice, he revealed that he filmed the scene in a full-motion capture suit. He also detailed the process, which included a giant-sized medicine ball that served as a stand-in for BB-8. Check out the full tweet below:

Though Hamill was credited as the character, he had expected it to be another unbilled easter egg for the most eagle-eyed of fans to uncover. Whether he'll get another chance at such an additional role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker remains to be seen. He is confirmed to be returning for the concluding chapter of the Skywalker saga, however, with Hamill hinting that Luke will be a force ghost. Carrie Fisher, who tragically past away before filming began, will also return, with previously unseen footage being reworked in order to fit within the new story. The new characters of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren will also return - with Daisy Ridley believing this will be her last appearance as the character.

Since first coming to prominence in George Lucas' original trilogy, Hamill has become increasingly well known for his voice work. After playing The Joker on Batman: The Animated Series, he is considered by many to be their definitive version of the character. So much so, he would later reprise the role not only in the Arkham video games but also the 2016 animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke. Most recently, he has lent his voice to the character of Chucky in the Child's Play remake. Based on this new reveal regarding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, however, it would appear that Hamill is expanding his range of work and, as such, could give current motion-capture king, Andy Serkis, a run for his money.
