It was revealed during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct that Mario Strikers: Battle League is coming to Nintendo Switch on June 10, 2022. Mario Strikers: Battle League is an upcoming Super Mario Bros. sports game, where teams of 5v5 characters from the Super Mario series compete to be the best and score more goals than the opposing team.

The Mario Strikers series is composed of competitive sports titles, with the most recent entry being Mario Strikers Charged on the Nintendo Wii. Like the Mario Kart series, the player is able to use items to harm the enemy team, such as throwing green shells and dropping bananas on the field. The characters even have their own special moves that can be used to help them score goals. The latest entry in the series has a different name in Europe, where it's referred to as Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, which is likely due to soccer being referred to as football outside of the US.

The February 2022 Nintendo Direct announced Mario Strikers: Battle League is coming to the Switch. The player can equip their characters with special gear that can improve their stats and change their appearance. There are also special "Hyper Strike" shots that can be done by grabbing a special orange ball when it hits the field and performing a charged shot, which will result in two points being scored with a single shot. The trailer for the game was shown as part of the Nintendo Direct, which can be seen on the official Nintendo YouTube channel.

Mario Strikers fans have wanted a Switch entry for a while now and it seems Mario Strikers: Battle League won't be a slouch in the multiplayer department. Mario Strikers: Battle League will also feature a number of multiplayer options. It's possible for up to eight players to compete locally in a 4v4 match on one Nintendo Switch, assuming there are enough controllers available. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can also take part in online matches. There is an Online Club mode, where up to twenty players can form a club, and the aim is to climb up the ranks and become the top-ranked player in the club.

It's fairly common for Nintendo Directs to feature Super Mario sports games announcements. The Switch already has games like Mario Golf: Super Rush and Mario Tennis Aces, so it's not that odd to see Mario Strikers: Battle League coming to the system. It seems that Nintendo Switch fans will soon be spoiled for choice when it comes to sports titles, as Nintendo Switch Sports was also announced during the same Direct. Nintendo Switch Sports is launching in April and it would be a shame if it took the wind out of Mario Strikers: Battle League's sails, as it looks like it will be a lot of fun.
