A content creator has shared an in-depth look at Microsoft Flight Simulator modded to include tracks from the Mario Kart series. The fan-made mod introduces classic Nintendo tracks to the Xbox game, though Microsoft Flight Simulator fans shouldn't expect any of the high-octane Mario Kart action, or any blue shells.

The longstanding Mario Kart series is home to many stand-out racing tracks, some of which are so infamous that they've transcended the games and are well-known even outside of gaming communities. Tracks such as Rainbow Road may have appeared in various different forms since the release of the original Mario Kart, but even non-Nintendo fans are familiar with them thanks to their tough-to-master corners and challenging gameplay. Mario Kart is a favorite for modders, and even games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been modded to include Mario Kart content.

As spotted by VGC, Twitch streamer Illogicoma recently took fans on a tour through various Mario Kart tracks within Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to a mod. The custom mod was made by the creator using pre-existing track assets and 3D model software Blender, with the process explained by Illogicoma on Twitter. In a stream later uploaded to Illogicoma's YouTube channel, the creator shows off a variety of Mario Kart tracks in Flight Sim, including Mount Wario, Moo Moo Meadows, Bowser’s Castle, Shy Guy Falls, Cloudtop Cruise, and of course, Rainbow Road.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Flight Simulator's Mario Kart mod doesn't allow for any races, but the creator has added in several hoops through which players must fly to "beat" each track. The game naturally has a much slower place than Mario Kart games, with the mod being more of a tour of Mario tracks rather than a mod for the competitive racing that the series is known for. Despite Microsoft Flight Simulator's limitations, Illogicoma's mod is very impressive, with each track's distinct flavor adding a Nintendo flair to the Xbox game.

The previously PC-only title made its Xbox console debut earlier this year, with many praising the game's intuitive controls and impressive visuals, and Microsoft Flight Simulator fans have even more to look forward to with the upcoming release of competitive multiplayer. Microsoft Flight Simulator's multiplayer will introduce the Reno Air Race racing mode, bringing STIHL National Championship Air Races to the game world. Hopefully the Mario Kart mod can be altered to include competitive races once the mode is live.
