Magikoopa Kamek has been confirmed as the next new driver coming to Mario Kart Tour. It will be the first time that Magikoopa Kamek has appeared as a Mario Kart driver in any of the games in the longstanding series. With more than 120 characters to choose from Mario Kart Tour has the largest roster of any game in the Mario Kart franchise, and the addition of Magikoopa Kamek makes the list of drivers even more impressive.

Mario Kart Tour is a free-to-play mobile game that released in 2019. While the game bears the Mario Kart title, its gameplay differs from non-mobile releases in the series. As well as Mario Kart Tour having vehicles that move on their own similar to those of endless runner, the game also runs "Tours," usually named after real-world cities and locations. Tours in Mario Kart Tour are typically two-weekly themed events in which players can compete to unlock gliders, drivers, and karts.

As revealed by Mario Kart Tour on Twitter (via NintendoLife), the game is gearing up for its next big event - the Kamek Tour. As the Frost Tour comes to an end, the game's developer teases Magikoopa Kamek's arrival, telling fans: "In case the tour's name isn't a big enough hint, the new driver is hidden somewhere in this image..." The tease isn't a very subtle one, as zooming in reveals that Magikoopa Kamek is indeed hiding in the image. The character can be seen just behind Dry Bowser's back wheels in the tweet below.

The news was met with excitement from fans on Twitter, many of whom have been waiting for a playable Mario Kart Tour Magikoopa Kamek for some time. Magikoopa Kamek hadn't made it into a Mario Kart game as a playable character before this, but Nintendo had made plans to include the character. Early screenshots of Mario Kart 64 revealed the character as playable, before being replaced by Donkey Kong. Game files for Mario Kart 8 have also hinted that the Magikoopa Kamek was supposed to be a playable character in the game, but didn't make it into the final cut.

The tweet also confirms RMX Ghost Valley 1 will be a part of the upcoming Mario Kart Tour Kamek Tour. The track is the third course of the Mushroom Cup in 1992's Super Mario Kart, and will be remixed for Mario Kart Tour. Fans can expect the upcoming event to begin soon, as the Frost Tour will end on August 25. Players looking to find out more should keep an eye on the game's social channels for exact release dates and times.
