Sure, the banana isn't the most exciting Mario Kart weapon, but it is certainly a staple of the franchise and one that everyone is aware of. The reason for that is because everyone has been hit with this at one point or another; even though they may be simple to avoid if a player has placed several close together or drops one right in front of you, it's going to cause problems.
They spin other players out of control whenever they connect with one, and that does provide some great impact. This can be the difference between first and second place if used correctly, and, while just picking up one can be useful, anytime a player can pick up the triple version of this power-up, it's always a bonus.
Piranha Plant
The Piranha Plant is a fantastic weapon and one that is actually quite underrated within the Mario Kart series. This weapon sees the Plant pop up and takes over the car itself, biting at other players as they drive past while dragging the car along with it. Of course, for this to be useful, racers will have to get up close and personal with other racers, but the combination of increased speed and offensive capability means that this item is undeniably impactful.
Mega Mushroom
The Mega Mushroom isn't a weapon that has been widely available within the Mario Kart series. However, when it does pop up within a game, it's one that gamers should absolutely want to get their hands on, as it has a massive impact within a race. This weapon increases the size of a character and that provides plenty of advantages. Because a character is far bigger, it allows them to smash past others, which is as hilarious as it is overpowered.
Bob-Omb
The Bob-Omb is a weapon that has a huge impact on others around them, which is what makes it such a perfect option. While this does take the accuracy of throwing it to a section featuring plenty of other characters, when it explodes, it can take out several racers at once.
Because this weapon has such a huge impact, it really is able to change things in the race, leaving several racers stranded while others fly past, which really changes things up due to its devastation.
Blue Shell
Arguably the most frustrating weapon within the game for anybody to experience, there are few things in the gaming world more annoying than being in the first place and getting destroyed by a Blue Shell just before the finish line. However, it certainly has a big impact when it hits.
The weapon is impossible to avoid, as it targets the player in the first place and blows them up, taking them out for a period of time. While this only really hits one player, or a couple if there's some nearby, it certainly is one of the most devasting.
Starman
The Starman weapon is an amazing one for racers to pick up, as it combines both speed and the ability to take out other characters at the same time. This weapon makes gamers invincible to everything outside of driving off the track itself. This increases the speed of a player without them having to boost anything, which is very helpful. Plus, because it takes out everyone who gamers hit while they drive, it can have a real impact that helps a gamer out massively.
Lightning Bolt
There are several weapons across the Mario Kart series that can impact every other player, but not all of them have as much impact as the Lightning Bolt. Whether this spins people out of control or shrinks them right down to a small size—depending on the version of the game—this move always causes an impact.
An added advantage is that this item impacts everyone on the track aside from the one using it, meaning that it has the potential to change the outcome of a race in an instant.
Bullet Bill
This is a weapon that gamers are only likely to pick up if they're struggling at the back of the pack within a race, but that shouldn't take away from its devastating power. This one transforms the player into the Bullet Bill character which takes full control of the character, smashing everyone else out of the way as it speeds ahead to get people back towards the front.

Triple Red Shells
While other weapons are able to cause huge devastation by charging through countless characters, like the Bullet Bill weapon, the red shells are pinpoint accurate and have huge devastation. Being able to target the player directly ahead of you is something that provides a huge advantage when trying to overtake someone.
The attack leaves another character spinning for a while, as well, which makes the move have even more of an effect, which really works well. It's something that allows a player to really advance on the characters around them, and, because they don't miss, it is a guarantee to cause a huge problem.
