The latest batch of new content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pack is releasing soon, and with this wave Nintendo is giving players Birdo as a new driver, leading some to wonder what other characters would be fun to see in future waves of DLC. With so many characters in Mario's history, plus other Nintendo-exclusive games that can get brought in, there are a lot of possibilities for Mario Kart 8 DLC characters in a future lineup. The mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, in particular, has added a lot with its large list of drivers and costumes.
Wave 4 of Mario Kart 8's Booster Course Pass is releasing on March 9, 2023, and included in the DLC content is a new playable driver, Birdo, who is available in a range of colors. In the trailer for Wave 4, Nintendo did not specifically announce if there will be new characters in either or both Mario Kart 8 DLC's Waves 5 and 6, but it did state that "characters from past Mario Kart games are on the way". While this sadly limits the characters to only ones that have been in previous Mario Kart games, it is still fun to consider what it would be like to have other characters included.
Characters That Would Be Cool To Add To Mario Kart 8's Booster Course DLCs
Though several in this list have not been in previous Mario Kart games, there are a few characters who really should be. Princess Zelda in particular is a surprising omission from the game's history as Link has been a recurring character. Featuring Zelda right before Tears of the Kingdom releases in a couple of months would also be good marketing for both games. Chargin' Chuck is a possibility as he is currently available in Mario Kart Tour; however, in his case, it is more significant for his Combo Cruiser to be brought over, so players can enjoy driving the cheeseburger kart. Here are some ideas of fun characters who would be fun to see show up in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Pass DLC.

Mario Kart 8's Booster Course DLC Characters Will Be From Past Games
As per Nintendo's statement, sadly characters such as Polterpup and Zelda are not likely to come to the Mario Kart 8's Booster Course Pass DLC waves because they have not been in prior Mario Kart games. That does, however, still allow for characters such as Monty Mole who is in Mario Kart Tour along with Chargin' Chuck, or for Diddy Kong. A Diddy Kong Racing sequel was rumored a while back, but there have been no confirmations that this game is in development. Therefore, since Diddy Kong was in Mario Kart Double Dash!! he could still be a viable option for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
There are few, if any, drivers in Mario Kart's history that would not be delightful to see brought into the current game. Whichever Nintendo chooses to add next will be fun to have, especially if they have crazy karts such as Chargin' Chuck's. That said though, it would certainly be more exciting to have a brand-new character such as Polterpup or Zelda included in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass, but perhaps that will have to wait for a new round of DLCs entirely.
