A new glitch has been discovered in the Sunshine Airport course of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Despite its name, players do not actually fly through the racing course. Like most of the other courses in the Mario Kart franchise, Sunshine Airport has dash panels that propel the player forward in a boost of speed, sometimes over a gap in the road. When this happens, the racer's glider activates and sails them through the air. Once reaching the end of the gap, the player lands and the glider disappears. This is not the case thanks to a new glitch found in the latest installment of Nintendo's beloved franchise.

Despite the impressive reputation of most of Nintendo's titles, some glitches will go unnoticed by any developers. In the case of the Mario Kart franchise, several glitches come to mind. For example, there is the rail-hopping shortcut in Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road course and the frustrating glitch where a player is sent back to the starting line of a course in Mario Kart: Double Dash. One notable glitch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the Ninja Hideaway one that traps players. Fans found that if a racer shoots off a certain ramp too soon, they will land atop a sign and potentially get soft-locked on it. When this happens, players are stuck and left with no other option than quitting the race. Thankfully, the newest glitch discovered by fans might help players rather than hinder them like the Ninja Hideaway glitch.

A Twitter user that goes by the handle CullingArtist posted a video showing their discovery of a glitch that lets the player fly through the Sunshine Airport course in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The glitch seemingly triggers once the racer drives over a dash panel and glides over the water. Instead of touching down on the ground over the gap on the race track, the racer continues to glide over the road and through the airport, sailing through signs and even flying over planes.

Mario Kart 8's Glitchy Flight Mechanics

Players' complaints with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Coconut Mall DLC stage were recently addressed in the newest update to the game, showing that Nintendo had heard fans' concerns over a portion of the game. Players were upset that the course that once featured Mii character NPCs moving to hinder racers on the course was changed to feature stationery Shy Guys. As a result of fans' complaints, Nintendo updated the Coconut Mall course so that the Shy Guys can spin their cars, making the track once again more challenging. Because Nintendo changed an aspect of the game based on players' feedback, it is probable that the glitch CullingArtist discovered will also be fixed in a future update if enough attention is brought to it.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's second Booster Course Pass DLC already out, Mario Kart fans are already trying to figure out which courses will be released on the next Booster Course Pass wave. Perhaps with the introduction of this interesting flying glitch, Nintendo will be more inclined to add a new flying mechanic to Mario Kart 9, whenever that game arrives.
