March 2022 video game releases will bring a number of eagerly awaited sequels like Gran Turismo 7, Rune Factory 5, and Shadow Warriors 3. The month also brings next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 and the PC port of Death Stranding Director's Cut. While March 2022 may not quite hit the highs of February 2022 video game releases, there are still plenty of options from a wide variety of genres.

After a number of gaming industry development delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2022 is now in full-swing for video game releases. January was a fairly sleepy time for releases, although Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched at the end of the month to record-breaking sales and critical acclaim. Meanwhile, February brought high-profile titles like Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring.

March 2022 video game releases may not have anything as popular as Pokémon, Horizon,  or Elden Ring, but it still has plenty of titles to look forward to. It's a big month for Square Enix and JPRG fans, as original tactics game Triangle Strategy from Team Asano and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin (a retelling of FF1) releases along with the Final Fantasy-inspired kart racing game Chocobo GP. For those interesting in seeing everything March 2022 video games have to offer, the full list can be found below, but here are some of the highlights.

March 2022: GTA 5 Goes Next-Gen & Death Stranding Director's Cut Is On PC

The lead character holds a baby in Death Stranding

While March 2022 offers plenty of new AAA and indie games, there are two highly anticipated releases awaiting fans of Death Stranding and GTA 5. March 15 will see the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will include a number of quality-of-life updates and new features for those wishing to visit Los Santos again - or for the very first time.

Meanwhile, the PC version of Death Stranding Director's Cut comes out near the end of the month - on March 30. Death Stranding Director's Cut initially came out in September 2021 on PS5 but will finally be arriving on PC about six months later. This is just the latest PlayStation exclusive to make its way to Steam, following the arrival of God of War (2018) on PC in January and Final Fantasy VII Remake in December 2021.

Nintendo March 2022 Releases Include Kirby & Triangle Strategy

Nintendo kicks off March 2022 with the release of Triangle Strategy on March 4, which launches around a crowded first week that includes the release of Gran Turismo 7 (also out on March 4) and only a day after Babylon's Fall (another Square Enix game). Triangle Strategy has caused quite a bit of excitement for fans of tactics RPGs. The acclaim other Team Asano games - like Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2 - have gotten has only added to the hype.

Rune Factory 5 is also launching on Nintendo Switch on March 22 and is the latest entry in that series. In terms of first-party Nintendo games, the month belongs to Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The newest Kirby game marks the first true 3D platformer in the series, and early previews seem to hint at Kirby getting a more open, post-apocalyptic setting to explore. Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases on Nintendo Switch on March 25, 2022.

Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Arrives In March 2022

The trailers for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin have ranged from odd, meme-worthy videos where "chaos" is overused to strange montages set to Frank Sinatra's "My Way." The game itself is a darker retelling of Final Fantasy 1 and features characters from that game like Garland and Princess Sarah. However, gameplay demos have shown a far more brutal and bloodier style than what many Final Fantasy fans may be used to. Between these trailers and pre-release demos, the game has already caused quite a stir. It'll be interesting to see if this kind of viral marketing pays off when Stranger of Paradise releases on March 18, 2022.
